| Harry's learned how to talk.... So, normally I take Harry everywhere with me....but the mornings now are so black and the roads are icey, and we have to leave just after 7 a.m. to take Andy to work - and it got me to thinking - does Harry really WANT to go out in this dreadfulness?!!? So now I ask him - "Do you want to come and take daddy to work"?!!? If he's not up for it - he'll go and get in his downstairs bed. If he DOES want to come, he'll go and sit and wait on the dining room table ( - I know, but it saves me bending!!! ) Any other talkers out there?!? Sally + Harry x |

| Harry is such a smart sweet boy He knows his mind!! Sugar will totally tell me what she wants to do. Curri is just learning the fine art of communication. My favorite thing Sugar Baby does is how she refuses an offered treat I place the treat in my palm and offer it to her. If it isn't to her liking she stiffens her tongue and FLICKS it across the room!!! A little embarrassing when shopkeepers offer her a biscuit

| Harry sounds like a typical Yorkie telling us what he wants or not and they do have up and down days like us. Some days they may be on the go all day and evening and others, they just want to lounge around and nap all day, go to bed early that night. Tibbe has always voiced his sharp opinions to me "Yorkietalking" about whatever we are doing, did or about to do so I am very familiar with the concept. Last night, he wanted to sleep by my feet UNDER the cover and I remember half-waking sometime in the night and telling hin "move" - apparently in my sleepy state not too politely for his liking because this morning, I found him in his den bed and not in the bed with me as he usually is!!! That alone spoke volumes!

All my babies can also understand what I am saying to them...the most heart tugging thing I ever witnessed from one of my babies was from my matriarch, Aija. She knew when my mother was going to go with me someplace, and she always wanted to go when momma went. She knew when mom put on a specific pair of shoes, that we were going someplace. She would look at her feet, see those shoes on mom, and go sit by the door. After mom died, Aija would go looking for her all over the house. But she would go first in moms bedroom, see her special "going" shoes in her closet, and she KNEW momma was still in the house someplace because those shoes were in the closet! For months after mom died, I would see Aija go to moms room, look in the closet, then start going from room to room, looking for mom. She grieved over momma for over a year, and she never forgot her. A couple of years after momma died, Aija and I had gone to pick my son up from his job at Kroger, and while we were sitting in the car, Aija intently watching the doors for Jimmy to come out, she saw a little elderly lady, about moms size, with her short hair do like mom wore her hair.....poor Aija got so escited, she was barking and yipping and jumping from my arms to the passenger seat door.....you WOULD know, that little lady was parked right next to my car.....Aija could not understand why in the world "momma" was getting into the other car and would not even acknowledge us...she would look at the lady, then look at me, then back to the lady....clearly heartbroken "mom" was "ignoring" her and was not going to come home with us....the fact that I could NOT explane what was going on, to her, broke my heart....she was sooooo sad, as she watched that lady drive away....she stood on the arm rest, watching her thru the window.....I cried. | Thanks for sharing the stories, smiles and tears with my morning tea, best way to start a day ! My tribe can talk, even baby Julia is learning to make her thoughts known. Gracie goes to the table by the door, where the treats are and goes through a routine. First she sits and stares at me if I say no, she lays down and sighs, if I ignore her she runs and taps the outside door, like she wants out onto the screen porch, where the doggy door to the outside is. When I get up, she runs to the table for a treat ! Now Julia is doing that too. Plus fake peeing on her pee-pad for treats !

| It's nice you give dear Harry a choice. I know there have been many mornings when I would much rather jump back in bed and pull the covers over my head! Gracie is quite a talker. She has her ways of making her wishes known. When it is well past her dinner time she will come up to me when I am sitting down and put her feet on my chest, like she is holding me down, then she gets close to my face and threatens to lick it. She knows I hate having my face licked. When she wants under the blanket she puts one foot under the blanket and tries to pull it up. She has various kinds of sounds she makes according to what she wants. If I am late taking her for her walk I get the all out bark. I guess she just cannot control herself when it comes to going outside and being the hunter she thinks she is! I do certain things at specific times of day usually but sometimes I am off schedule. Apparently Gracie is a creature of habit, too. She has me figured out and expects me to continue to serve her according to the pattern I have already established. Who is taking care of who here? |
