| New to yorkietalk! Hey there I'm new here and wanted to say hi! I don't have my Yorkie baby yet. The litter isn't born yet, but I'm really excited about getting one, and joined Yorkie talk for advice and to share my love of Yorkies with others who feel the same way |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | These are excellent resource books "Yorkies For Dummies" and "Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide" . Another book "How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days" Is very helpful. They are not as easy to housebreak.

| Welcome to yorkietalk! I would make sure your pup doesn't come home any younger then 12 weeks.

| Why is it bad for them to come home younger? Just out of curiosity. I want to do the best thing for my baby. |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk! This is definitely the best place to come for information about yorkies. As for the 12 week rule, it is best for puppies to stay with their mothers until then to get the proper socialization they need. They learn bite inhibition, how to play with their siblings, and what is acceptable behavior. They also get the nutrition they need from their mothers and the confidence they need to venture out in the real world.

| They are still learning from there mom. We have had many people lately coming on here and there puppy has had biting problems and it was because they got there pup before 12 weeks and there mom didn't teach them about biting yet. Also all good breeders will fallow the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America and one of there rules is puppies must not go home before 12 weeks. The risk of hypoglycemia is still there at 12 weeks but a little bit smaller then with say an 8 week old pup. Its one of the ways you can also separate bad breeders from good breeders in my opinion because breeders who let the pup go early don't want what is best for the pups and normally want them gone as soon as possible so they don't have to spend any more time or money on them.

| Welcome. You have plenty of time to read all the info available here. The "sticky" areas have great tips on a variety of subjects concerning the Yorkie. There is also a library category. Getting lots of information ahead of time can save you from having problems later. |
