| I just wanted to give thanks... on this Thanksgiving day, and pay one final tribute to my sweet little Yorkie girl Duchess, who forever changed my life. On November 7th, in 1998, I traveled 70 miles to Bonn Terre, MO (not sure of the spelling), and picked this little sweetheart out from a litter of four cute little Yorkie puppies. I wasn’t that much of a dog lover, prior to getting her. Though most of my childhood, I had a dog of one kind or another, usually very mixed breeds, but usually pretty good dogs. And, I liked them, and for the most part was close to them. However, never as close as I was to Duchess. But, then I went for probably nearly 20 years, starting in my late teens, without a dog of any kind. Then fortunately a friend who worked in the building that I was working in, in 1998, brought down the little Yorkie pup that she was “puppy sitting” for a friend. It was sooooo cute, I was determined to get one of my own. Which led to that day in November, in 1998, when I went and picked up that little 1.5 pounds of love. She was a wonderful, devoted friend for nearly 14 years. And, though I’ve been fortunate enough to find another 2 year old show quality Yorkie, that has really has helped ease the pain, I’ll always love her. I’ll always be indebted to her for making me a dog lover. For she, and she alone did that, with her undying love and devotion. Physically, she wasn’t a show quality Yorkie, though she was awfully cute in the face. But, she had a show quality heart, and what a companion she was too! I know that probably many of you have stories like this, and like I said at the start, I just wanted to pay one last tribute to her, as I had to say good bye to her on July 6th. But, God has blessed me with another little Yorkie boy, and boy am I glad that I found him (or God put us together)! He loves me bunches too (and the feeling is mutual) and is with me all the time, when I’m home. I’ll be glad when I can retire in a few years and spend each and every day with him, and we’ll go places and do things together. So, I just wanted to give thanks on this special day for precious little Duchess (the reason my username is iluvduchess), who made me into a dog lover –particularly a Yorkshire Terrier lover. And also, for this beautiful little Yorkshire Terrier boy, that he has currently blessed me with, who needed a new home. I just can’t imagine life without a Yorkshire Terrier any longer. And, now as I look back, it kind of grieves me that I went for so many years without one. So finally, I just give thanks for my little Duchess, I’ll never forget you sweetheart or quit loving you. And, for little Peyton, who I’ve also been blessed with. Most people have one “heart” dog in their lifetime. But, it looks like I’ve been blessed to have been given two! I'm sure many of you would join me in saying, Thank God for Yorkshire Terriers!! |
