Senior Yorkie Talker | Anise Seed Had a situation today where my father (86) dropped a pepernoten. It is a dutch cookie that has anise in it. My little one dug after it like it was the best thing that happed to her all day. I did get it away from her. I looked up anise and found an article that said, "Do you know that dogs react to anise seed in the same way cats react to catnip?" Just kind of wondering if anyone has heard of of this? is this bad for them? Just asking for thoughts I guess because I have never heard this before.

| I have never heard that. Didn't know there was an equivalent to catnip for dogs! Anyone want to try it out on their baby? Not me. She has enough silly in her already! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'd never heard of that either, this site tells how you can use anise seed in a toy. Canine Catnip: How to Make an Anise Dog Toy - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com

| Do they mean anise seeds, as in star anise? The pods that we use to make pho? If that's the case maybe Uni's always high. That would explain a LOT.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | No, Aise and Star Anise are different. Anise is Pimpinella anisum and Star Anise is Illicium verum. Anise has simullar flavor as fennel or liquorice |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Catnip One little piece of info When a cat smells catnip they go nuts. But when it is eaten, it seems to have the opposite effect. They become very mellow I wonder if Anise is the same with dogs. . . .. Hmmm |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Well, the article I linked said that you can use anise seeds or extract, I found a small bottle of extract on sell for $2.00 and poured half the bottle on a favorite toy. It's clear so you don't stain the toy. Anyway, neither Joey or Ralphie seems impressed, but I love the smell!

| I seem to have come down with a bug (thanks to the hubs *sigh*) so I'm putting off trying this until next weekend. The info says that it has an effect on some dogs but on others - not so much.
