Im new ♥ I'm Linda from Nova Scotia, Canada. I got myself a male 2 month old yorkshire terrier, and his name is Sir Benji. I have had him for 4 days now, when we first brought him home he was going onto the wet pad and I was saying Good boy. Then the third day he started going on the floor and when I put him on the wet pad he would just lay there and I would wait and nothing but as soon as I took him off he would do it on the floor again, every now and then I will catch him and put him on the wet pad and he will go. I am just wondering if that is something to worry about or just keep doing what I am doing. I did take him out once after we got back from the vet and he used outside. I said good boy. So I am wondering what should I do. This is my first Yorkshire puppy and I love him so much but just want him to go on the wet pad or should I just keep taking him outside every 2 hours. Any advice? Thanks for listening, Linda ♥

Hi and welcome to YT. I would do both or go with the potty method most convenient for you. As long as the pup goes ever so often, you should be fine

Im new ♥ Thank you both, I feel kinda weird asking these questions because I never had to do it before. I am feeding him 4 times a day. I found out if I leave the water dish down he will drink it when ever and then have accidents so I am not sure when to give him the water. I read that they have 6 pees a day, is that true. How many poops do they have. I am just learning and trying so hard to make my Baby boy happy. Thank you for all your help ♥ Linda

Your 8 week old puppy will not start having the ability to hold back urine until it is about 16 to 18 weeks old. Even then it is going to be hit and miss. These babies have small bladders and need to be near the potty at all times. Don't let him wander. Are your puppy pads treated with the attractant that draws the pup by scent to the pad? Some are better than others. You could try a liquid housebreaking aid that they sell in the stores. It has a hormone in it that causes the pup to want to pee on it. Just put the liquid on the pad. You will still need to be putting him on the pad regularly. It is kind of hard when they are so young to outside train because you can't really tell if they have pottied yet. You can try taking him outside with the potty pad once is knows that is where he is supposed to go. It is going to take a lot of training to teach him his potty rules but be kind and consistent and he will learn. Congratulations on your new baby and welcome to YT.

| I would not take away his food or water, I would just maybe buy and ex pen and keep him in there with his food , water , toys and bed.. keeping his bed and toys at one end and the potty pad at the other, its a good long long time before yorkies are potty trained and that is with consistance... if you dont have a ex pen try gating him in the kitchen when you cant supervise him... he needs to learn where he can potty and puppies think anything that remotely looks and feels like a pee pad is one .... try keeping some really good treats near his pee pads and when he goes there give him some great praise and a great treat... !! Its going to be some time before he will learn to control his bladder since its only the size of a quarter.. puppies are very active, keep his water and food down at all times... so he will be strong and grow!

This is a great group ♥ Thank you, Gracielove and jeanm1963, I have had my Sir Benji outside twice today and he has loved every minute of it playing in the leaves. He also had his first poop and his second pee outside. No he needs his water when he is playing and he loves playing fetch with a ball. I throw the ball and he goes after it and brings it back and lets go of it. He liked that really fast. I always tell him I am proud of him and that he is a good boy. If anyone wishes to add me to their friends list I don't mind. I am really glad to have found this site. It is 5:40 pm here in Nova Scotia, Canada. I am in the Valley.
