| My Yorkie is biting himself! My Yorkie Is biting himself on his back about 3" above his tail. He now has two oval shaped bald spots in his beautiful hair. I cannot see any irritation of his skin. He was scratching like crazy a couple of months ago. He does not have fleas. I thought it might be dry skin and have been giving him a little salmon oil daily. It seemed to help; he does not scratch as much. But he has bitten himself bald. It was one place....now two. I am desperate to help him. |

| Sounds like something a vet needs to take a look at.

| I have learned a lot from this forum and one of them is that dogs can develop food allergies. If you take him to the vet and they don't find anything, try changing his food. There are some good threads on here where people talk about itching and food allergies and the types of food ingredients that are better for dogs with sensitive skin. Just a thought. |

| I would have the Vet take a look at it. It sounds like it could be allergies.

YT 2000 Club Member | What are you feeding your Yorkie? It could be a food allergy. So many foods are not good for the skin of our precious Yorkies. I would definitely change over to a food with a Venison or Lamb base if the vet cannot diagnose the problem. I had a poodle that bit her skin raw and it was awful. It was a food allergy. Got her off that science diet and on to a venison base food and she cleared up. Please check the food. My dogs eat Blue Buffalo and are doing fine. I hope you can get this taken care of. Also watch the shampoo and conditioner. I use Hy-lyte from the vet. I hope this helps! |

| It could be allergies or some kind of bacteria. U might want to take ur pup to the vet. I am firm believer in coconut oil for any kind of skin problems. Check this article out, Animals and the Healing Power of Coconut Oil Keep us posted! Last edited by JosselleandLola; 11-10-2012 at 07:37 AM. |

| I'm glad you are getting him into the vet... It could be anything, allergies, hot spots, yeast, fleas. Your vet should be able to figure it out

| Princess does this. Has ruined her coat. Causes we've encountered: fleas, allergens on body, yeast, bacteria, food allergies, shampoo itching, new hair growing in, warming itching from meds. Love our kiss econe. No love when she gets an outbreak switched meds several times as they were the cause.

| Apparently something is causing a problem back there. Have you ever gone through his fur with a flea comb to see what you get. There are various types of things he could have picked up. Using the comb could also disclose a skin issue that you cannot detect by just looking. Most itching is cause by parasites or allergies. Food allergies are becoming very common especially in purebred dogs. A visit to a good vet that will take the time to really try to pinpoint the problem would help. Don't let them just give you a product and send you on your way. You need to find the issue and not just treat without really knowing what you are dealing with. |
