| Ear Mites We took our new little baby Rocky to the vet yesterday for a routine puupy check up and becasue he had been scratching his ears. The vet diagnosed him with ear mites Prescribed ear drops and they seem to be working but today I noticed more of these light brown specks on the top of his head and a little down the back of his head. He had been scratching a lot and had scratched one off and it bled, which I told the vet. He acted like it was no big deal, and din't say much, but today I noticed a few more. I called the vet and they prescribed an antihistamine but I said it wasn't bumps it's almost like dandruff that I can pick off with my hand, it doesn't seem to hurt him. However, they can't see him until Monday. Have any of you dealt with any issues like this or have any of your babies had ear mites? I was researching online and they said sometimes they can travel but they don't live long outside the ears. |

| If you can get a good powerful magnifying glass and see if those specks have legs. It sounds like dog lice. Your Vet may not be aware that there is such a thing as dog lice, some Vets are too stupid to know about them. They can be treated either of two ways. Best way is Advantage Gold. Although it is not labeled for dog lice, it does kill them very effectively. Otherwise you can try flea baths and then a good flea spray. Also once treated comb through with a flea comb to remove bodies and or eggs that have loosened. You will have to apply the Advantage Gold at least two or three months in a row. |
