Water Bottle vs Bowl of water???

Josie will be here in 9 days and was wondering if people use a water bowl or a bottle like a guinea pig or both? I think I read somewhere that the bottle keeps the hair around their mouth dryer????? Not sure if this matters, but for a couple of bucks, I bought one. Thinking about putting in on the crate or xpen.

Any tips are appreciated for this first time dog owner.

I had a water bottle in Callie's play pen when she has surgery and I didn't feel like she was getting enough water from it like she does from her bowl.

I put both on Max's pen when I go to work... I do it just in case his water bowl spills or if he drinks it all he would still have water in the bottle. But I can tell that it takes him a while to drink out of the bottle.

I also take the bottle on car rides or when visiting friends or family. It works great!

We use water bottles here. I know they get enough from the amount they peepee

We sstarted out with bowls but Luna would play in it and I would be constantly be changing it and cleani.g hp water

I have never had a dog that would drink from that bottle well(levels never went down much at all) so I just finally gave up and use a small water bowl in the crate. They learn to stay out of it and their hair minimally wet from drinking for only a while.

We use a water bottle. Jada and Bogie both make such a mess of their facial hair when we use a bowl. They get plenty of water from the bottle (all the pee on the pads tells me they get plenty)

I use bowls. I haven't yet had a problem with excessive wet faces. I expect when 'staches grow into their full glory, there's that chance, but clean faces so far are the norm. Sabre actually hates a wet face and on the rare occasions his 'stache soaks up too much water, he'll go wipe his face off himself. Of course he always does that when the camera is nowhere to be found, so I can't get a vid of it.
I considered using a bottle, but I couldn't bring myself to, because of the natural mechanics of lapping water. It just seemed wrong to force them to drink in what seems to me to be a completely unnatural way. It also seemed it would take longer as well as be harder for them to get water, though for sure they'd get enough.. eventually.
I believe that people should do what they think is best for them and their dogs, so I don't think it's wrong to use bottles, just for me, it is. Others prefer bottles and that's fine too.

I use bowls but I only use glass for both food and water. Glass is much easier to keep germ and odor free. I also only use distilled or purified water. I don't use a crate so wouldn't have anyway to use a bottle anyway.

I read somewhere that the water bottle thing is bad for their teeth.

I used a hamster water bottle when Pnut was a puppy- he was crated at that age so it really worked well for us. He was able to get enough water as well as not make a water mess in his crate- it also gave him extra room!!

I have to use water bottles with my mini Schnauzer.

Ironically the other dogs prefer it now too.

Keeps their faces bacteria free abd dry...and Scoovers wont drump it.

I have both, water bottles & bowls. Mimi has long hair, so she prefers to drink from the water bottle, she doesn't like getting wet or me fussing over her w/ a wash cloth loll. Momo drinks from the bowl, he drinks from the edge so he doesn't get wet.
Using water bottles will not deprive them of getting enough water. They will drink til they're not thirsty anymore.

As a puppy Princess trued to chew the metal spout on hers...it too a littkle effort...to be fair though she was and atill is the worse chewer I've ever heard of!

Vet actually diagnosed her with a form of pica abd she gets a vitamin suppliment for it she eats random objects.

Oh, ok that explains why a water bottle can be bad. Mine never chewed on the tip of the water bottle...they did go lick it out of boredom or while playing & running around loll.
