| does your fur baby have papers? Ok this might be a weird question but do you care about your baby being papered or not? My little swayzee Nash is papered but I'm debating on whether or not to send the paper in. I really don't care she's my baby even if she didn't have them I just wondered how many people sent in their papers and if it even mattered? I know she's purebred is that all they are basically saying? Lol I'm sorry if I'm confusing I have confused myself lol |

| I have one registered and one not registered. It didn't matter to me either way. However, I did send Rosie's paperwork in. I sent it in because my SIL, who was the breeder, told me to. Lol.

| To start with let me preface this with as a Canadian, my dogs are registered with CKC (equivilent to AKC)...and they are pets so; I don't care per se, but my breeder registered Georgie and then I received her paperwork afterwards. Georgie's microchip is also CKC registered, so that if she got found and someone called the CKC, they would be able to direct them to me. When I rescued Charlee, I had her owner surrendered papers including her CKC papers so I was able to call the CKC and have her listed as now living with me. Because she came through rescue and not directly to me from her owner apparently I can't be listed as her new "owner"...however; she is tagged to me and my address if she ever turns up after being lost...Which reminds me, I'm moving and better add them (CKC) to my list of "change of address" information! |

| We registered our GSP and I love the lineage line (ancestry) that we recieved but other than that I don't think that it matters that he has papers. He isn't a show dog, we didn't stud him out, and he hunts for fun, not competitively- he's "just" our pet. I am glad to support the AKC registry, however, so I don't "regret" sending his papers in. Blazer doens't have papers because he isn't purebred.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I know i might get step on my head for this but, I learn with a couple I met that it matters, a former nanny took their silky (not mine) they adopted from me years after ,this was years ago when we did not have the microchip, and she said that that was her dog, they took her to court, and because they had registered the dog ,proof of ownership was the registration papers, I don't remember what kind of lesser registry it was but it help the couple claim their puppy back, so even if not AKC, my take is that registration with any registry can proof ownership, same with the microchip registration. if you don't show still important to have proof that that dog is YOURS... just my take on it..I had never thought about registrations on that note but now I do...is proof that you OWN that dog.. specially now that dognappings are on the rise.. think about it it makes sense, with microchip and registration papers is NO doubt that , the dog is YOURS.. hugs, Last edited by carmen in nj; 10-26-2012 at 06:25 AM. |

| A male friend of mine had an issue kind of like that where his dog's papers proved the dog was his before he got into a relationship with his girlfriend that tried to claim the dog was hers when they broke up. Since Guinness is CKC they have the ID card which to me is great, we travel a lot so if anything ever happens I have my furchilds ID card just like you do for kids... which list his name a picture of him and his chip number so no mater where I am as long as I have my ID I also have his. |

| All 3 of mine are registered with the AKC in MY name only. I'm glad I did this because, I don't think my husband would ever try to take them, but if he did, I have ownership papers, along with microchip information showing the belong to ME and ME alone. He may have paid for them, but I am the one who cleand up after them, bathes them, walks them and takes care of them. He lost any rights to them when he walked out on me during the middle of cancer and chemo.
