No Longer a Member | Our new pups So those who know of us know my story that My Bella Donna had her 1st litter a year and half ago, Things didnt go so well last time as the birthing began the 1st pup got stuck, we rushed momma to the vet, They removed the pup and placed Bell in cage were she did deliver two more pups on her own, She had three girls, two came home, Anyways after thinking about the mistakes made and talking with my vet I decided to let her have one last litter, this being her 2nd, But I was going to go about this diffent, Last time I read and read got all worked up scared and nurves I just new something bad was going to happen, I really thought about the choices I had made, and the fact was even thou I loved Bella and treated her like a human she in fact is an animal and animals have been birthing on their own for 100s of years, This time I wasnt going to be there in the room as it appeard Bell new I was nervous and just didnt focus on what needed to be done because once she was left alone at the vets she did fine deliving two more pups, This time I was going to let mother nature do its thing, I wanst going to read anything negtive on line, So I got her a whelping box and placed it in my room next to my bed, and the towels and stuff just in case and was ready, Last Sunday I wake up at 1am because my leg is wet I look under the covers and there Bella has a puppy cleaning it, I got up and left the room, Leaving her right in my bed to do her thing, I kept a close eye on her just checking in on her from time to time, And at 4am we had 4 puppies and one tried momma, She had did it, And without help, She had 4 babies 3 girls and a boy, Weve got TinkerBell, being the smallest no bigger then my pinky finger, then we got EzeyBell,AnnaBell, and last the little boy, Bailey, Last time I took them to the vet to do the docking and claws witch I didnt care for to much stiches in my little 2 oz pups, So my husband and I did it our selfs on day four using the clampping meth, no blood at all.Everything is going good and the pups are 8 days old. If I were to give advise on letting your pet have pups it would be get your advise from your vet and dont focuse so much on what can go wrong yes things do go wrong with yorkies but fact is they are animals and have been doing this a long time without help, dont panic stay claim enjoy you pet. |

| First let me say congrats on your puppies, I am happy everything went well for you and the Momma dog. I do not want to start a fight with you or anyone but honestly I do not agree with your advice. I personally have witnessed many, many cases where a dogs of all sizes have needed some human help when delivering babies. Taking pieces of your advice I would strongly support two things 1, get advise from your Vet and 2, let your pet be a pet which does not mean breeding them. Good luck with your puppies.

| I wholeheartedly disagree...Yorkies need assistance when whelping. You lucked out. I hope NOBODY takes your advice/experience & whelps their girl unattended. The 1st time didn't go wrong bc you were there, the puppy was breech...

I guess I am a control freak...I know when my dogs are bred, I know within 3-5 days when they will deliver, I have xrays so I know their positions and pelvic ring/head-shoulder ratios....I have xrays so I know how many babies there will be, my mommas are isolated from rough play, running, jumping etc the last 2 weeks before the babies are due, I am taking temp of mom every day, twice a day, my mommas are in their OWN bed, with me looking on, when she delivers, I cut the cords so she doesnt have the chance of disemboweling the baby or causing a hernia, I allow her to consume only 2 placentas so she doesnt have diarrhea, I make sure I can see her and the babies but she is isolated from noise and commotion and drafts, other dogs, etc...just her and the babies.....I guess I I was a nervous wreck, that may rub off on her during whelping, but it wont cause a breach birth or a baby to get cross-wise....I tend to be a calming influence on my mommas during whelping....of course, being the control freak I am, I have always known in advance, if there was going to be any forseeable issues and those were addressed prior to whelping. I do not like surprises and I do not like emergencies, and I do everything hmanly possible to prevent both. It would be inconceivable to me to allow a pregnant female about to whelp, to run all over the house, with the possibility of having puppies all over the place....I often remind people who say, "Women make such a big deal over having babies...they have been having babies for thousands of years....just squat in a field and have it"....I remember I PERSONALLY would have been one of those women that died in child birth, if not for medical assistance and attendance (c-sections). Same thing with my dogs.....I leave NOTHING to chance........... Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 10-22-2012 at 10:43 AM. | |

Of course it helps to be calm and confident. I would NEVER leave a bitch alone when she is whelping. Like Yorkiemom1 I would try to have every 'what if' covered. Things can go wrong in an eye blink. Many Many women and bitches have died giving birth. Natural is best but, for goodness sake PLEASE make sure help is right there if needed ! If you want a natural birth fine, People please have your babies with a midwife, IN the hospital. And for a Yorkie, Please Have an experienced Yorkie Midwife in attendance and a vet on stand by !

| I'm glad all is well with your litter but I agree with the others who have stated that there are many things that can go wrong with birthing a litter and they have nothing to do with a person being there to witness the events. Your little girl having a puppy lodged in the birthing canal happens more frequently than you can imagine and it had nothing to do with your watching. It is a good thing you were there to get her to the vet in time because you could have lost her and the whole litter. Purebred dogs and cats tend to have more problems birthing than the common mixed breeds do but any dog or cat can have these issues. Years ago I took in a stray pregnant cat (the first of many) It turned out the first kitten she tried to push out was too big. She could not get it out and I ended up taking her to the vet where she had a section and I had her spayed at the same time. She was a common everyday cat and would have died if I hadn't taken her in. |

| 14. Any additional information you want to add: Lovely little yorkie we call Bailey, great with mom and dad,the cat and kids, This is not a puppy to be sold for Breeding, Iam not a breeder nor am I selling this puppy to be breed, My two did the deed before being spayed and we had a litter of three, This is my adult females frist, last and only littler, So placement of this little one is verey important to me, Iam looking for someone who only wants a friend for life, and companion. Unfortunately if you are looking for a show or pedigree bloodline this is not the pup for you, As I bought my female 2 years ago with only ckc papers and no info on the bloodline, I do have the breeders name on my female and the parents names of my famle if youd like to do reshreach, however my male was a rescue were I begged the owner to sell him to me because he was thrown in the yard because a bulldog was useing him as a chew toy, I tried to get past info on him but even getting his vet recoreds was like pulling teeth, having to start from scatch with him. So Iam not proclaiming to have this perfect breed yorkie, furture showdog or pedigree. So if thats what your looking for please dont contact me as I dont have it, What I do have is a 1.2 pound CKC Yorkshire Terrier, Shes been declawed, her tails been docked,dewormed,1st set of shots and vet checked. Her mother is also CKC yorkshire terrier she is 4 pounds, Her farther is CKC yorkshire terrier 6 pounds, Shes a lovable playmate, Were looking for someone who just wants a yorkie as a pet, friend, If this is you please call or email me. I am assuming that you new litter is from the same lines as the pup you were selling in the above post, I believe you said it was an opps before having your dog spayed, so I guess you changed you mind about that, what about the fact that the male was a rescue who you know nothing about. It's your business if you decide to breed puppies, and I know there are people like myself that have looked for show yorkies. But I have to wonder why you boasted, oppps I mean posted about your current litter, are you expecting everyone to say yeah, bully for you, congrats, how great that you did the complete opposite on what the YT members stand for, but wound up with 4 pups to sell, is that what you expected us to say. Or are you using this forum to raise interest in some puppies you will have for sale in the future. LOL I am looking into my crystal ball and will make an early prediction that this thread will get heated and eventually closed. I am glad that mom is well.

| Leaving your dog while its giving birth can end up killing your dog or pups if something goes wrong and your not there to help. Yorkies where much bigger when they originated and now that they have been breed down they have to have help delivering. Wow you got really lucky this time but I would spay her because I'm not sure you can handle breeding.

| I agree with what the others have been saying. My female is my life and I could not imagine leaving the room while she was in such a potentially deadly situation. You could have lost your female and you wouldn't know it until you came back into the room. This is why I could not breed... I'm too much of a control freak, and it's not worth losing my pup's life to produce more dogs. There are enough dogs in shelters that we do not need to irresponsibly add to the overpopulation. I understand breeding to better the breed, but I do not understand how people can be so irresponsible...
