| Hello and welcome. It appears that the hair is shorter on his back. Is there any chance that he is rolling around trying to scratch his back on something? |

| Bumping this, cause I'm getting the same thing on mine... thin hair on the shoulders, belly above the back, and the fuzzy fur on the butt section. I don't know if it's the age- 4 months (6/ 6)- or something with her diet. Just noticed it starting this past week. Hope someone else knows more .

| I have no advice to give, but have seen threads like this & no real answer was given as to what it was. Seems like a mystery & some pups outgrew it...also, a good grain free diet improved the hair. A skin scrape/cytology must be done to rule out any parasites or fungal infection.

| I forgot to add that there are medical reasons for a dog's hair to thin out, like Cushings or a Thyroid problem, but your pup is so young...idk?

| Maybe try posting this in the health and diet section. If the problem is not improving I would try another vet. You might look into an Omega3 supplement as well. |

| Did the vet do any skin scrapings or blood work? His hair looks very dry. Could be thyroid..that often happens with hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism in Dogs: Symptoms and Treatment on MedicineNet If your vet cannot diagnose it, I would suggest a vet dermatologist.

| I posted here recently with the same problem! I have no idea what causes it. Our vet didn't know either. Thank heavens it's not just us, though! If you find out anything, please let me know, because I'm still in the dark. We just had the groomer cut the rest of his hair to match it and we're hoping it all grows back evenly. |

| What are you feeding your pup? I would definitely suggest a skin scraping to rule out possible problems.

| Thin hair like that which is not patchy seems systemic to me so I would get a second opinion from a vet who is like an internest/diagnostician. Thyroid and other genetic disorders that can be hard to diagnose can cause problems like that so possibly another veterinary mind is in order.

I agree with LadyJane. If your vet didn't scrape the skin to make a diagnosis, then a vet dermatologist surely can. You can find one here: https://www.acvd.org/locator/locator.asp

| Have any of these pups had flea meds? I had a hair change in a stripe pattern from putting the liquid capsules on my Wheaten terrier- took a long time to grow out.... |
