| how high can he jump? i'm contemplating getting a new pet gate for the kitchen. i'd like to have somewhere i can open the gate to let bunjee walk from the kitchen to the halloway to outside rather than to pick him up from the kitchen and setting him by the door for outside. i'd also like to be able to step over the gate as well when i enter and exit the kitchen. i'm considering getting the "pet sitters gate" that you can find at target and petsmart, but the thing is, it's only 21" tall compared to the 24" gate i have now. so i was wondering, those with adult yorkies, will they be able to jump and clear a 21" gate? am i pretty safe going with the pet sitters gate or should i look for something higher? bunjee is suppose to be about 6-8 lbs fully grown just for a perspective. thanks for your feedback. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | We had one of those baby gates. 24 inches I think. I had them closed off in the kitchen. Chester would jump the gate, use the bathroom where he wanted and jump back over. Gracie wasn't able to jump at the time. MADE ME SO FREAKIN MAD!!!!!!! Guess he thought he wouldn't get in trouble!

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I just bought one that has a door hinge you can open and close. It looks so much nicer than the other I had....the BIG problem ain't jumping. Mr. Pee Wee Trace can fit through the dang bars. So now we have to modify what once looked nice into the white trash baby gate......

| I purchased the Kidko baby gates through out my home on ebay. There are many models but what I loved was the ability to walk through the gate and then shut it. I feel twice stepping over a gate (caught my toe) and that was the end of that...lucky I didn't hurt any of my kids. Kidko Baby Gate If people do a google search you will find many styles and prices for these gates. Good Luck

| I think my babygate is 24" tall. All my yorkies think the babygate is a suggestion that they should stay behind it because they all jump or climb out of it. See video clip : http://www.geocities.com/tinybittosalt/MVC-004V.MPG So I think if your puppy really want to get out it can and the 3" will not make a difference. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Thought of something else....Trace is to small to jump over. But our cats did teach our old dog how to do it. She looked just like a cat doing it. Trace sees the cats do it now, if he ever figures out HOW to do it...I'm in trouble

bchgirl, bunjee is so tiny right now, i'm afraid he'd be able to squeeze through the bars of most baby gates as well. lucky for me, i don't have a cat for bunjee to pick up jumping habits from. haha. livingdustmops, will that gate pressure mount on a doorway with unleveled surfaces? are the bars narrow enough so that the puppies can't squeeze through? so do i have to just wait until bunjee's grown a bit more. txshopper73, how old and how big is chester? was he trying to blame his behavior on gracie? haha. such a smart little one. | |

| Gates are great, but Yorkies are smart. If they want on the other side, they find a way. Good luck to you, I hope you find one that works, if you do, please let us know.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | [QUOTE=hunniebunnie]initially got that wooden gate you have in the video, but the way that it's built, it assumes a leveled surface on both sides of the door way, and my baseboards actually stick out creating a doorway with an uneven surface, so back to petsmart it went. QUOTE] That was the problem with our old gate. The rubber bumper things were too low and hit the baseboard and then the ones at the top wouldn't hit the door jam....so we were sliding it back and forth...not to mention you had to block it to keep it in place....and between we and the cats climbing/jumping over...sometimes it fell. Any way I don't remember the name of the one I got....I'm thinking it's parents magazine, but it has adjustable little wheel bumpers on the sides. I got it at Target. Like a screws with a round bumper on the ends. You can extend it or not as necessary. I didn't even have to do mine uneven cause the bumper thing is actually placed ABOVE the baseboard. It also comes with wooden extensions, in case your doorway is too wide. And it closes automatically if you don't shut it manually. Trace can only get through one place....the end that swings open....it's just a smidge larger than the others and he has to do quite a bit of manuvering too...he doesn't just slip through....he's gotta tilt his head and wiggle his body through. If he has a sweater on, it slides off him during this trick, so it's a squeeze to say the least. Trust me, he thinks it out. I'm gonna get hubby to place a dowel inside that opening to make it smaller. Good luck containing your pup, they learn to be quite the escape artists
