| Lil Dude Gizmo Had to rush Lil Dude Gizmo to the vet at ten this morning. He woke up acting funny, running in circles and then sitting down real quick. Then when I took them outside, he would not walk. Scared me to death cause he is always right by my side. Took him to our vet and she says sounds like anal glands. I said he was just at the groomers two weeks ago. She informed me that anal glands can fill up in a matter of two days. Anyways she takes him in back and expresses his glands and comes back out and tells me they were full and thick which is not normal. I guess, according to her, it is supposed to be runny fluid that comes out. She gave him a shot of steroids to help his but feel better and by the time I got home from work he was fine. This is all new to me. She wants to keep an eye on him so he goes back in two days and if he has a build up again she will run some tests to see why his fluid is so thick. I pray everything is ok with him and I am going to learn how to do his anal glands by myself.

| Wow, I've never heard of the anal glands effecting them like that... I'm glad you got him in. I take my male in every 6 months or so when I notice he is scooting and have the vet express his anal glands. I would be very careful doing them yourself... You could do more harm.

| Is this a common condition with yorkies? I've never heard of this issue before so am curious. I'm so glad you got him to the Vet and he is feeling better so quickly!

| It can happen to any dog... Most dogs can express their anal glands on their own, but some cannot. My mom's shih-tzu has to have hers expressed when she is groomed. She's had hers explode because they were too full, so my mom has them expressed every time she is groomed to avoid that.

| Lil Dude Gizmo has been just fine since we went to the vet but he goes back today so she can check his glands again and then we will know if there is a problem or not.

| I am so glad Gizmo is ok!! Jada had anal gland issues a couple of months ago. She had never had to have them expressed but she was scooting and biting at her bottom, so I took her in. One side was really full and thick too. It hasn't happened again, so I hope it doesn't for Gizmo too!!

| I wonder if the fluid was thick due to infection or impaction? I hope it doesn't happen again, poor kiddo. It's so weird the variety of symptoms that this can cause. Make sure the groomer is aware that he had this problem, they can help you keep an eye on it
