| My nightmare the past week or so... Hello all.. it's been awhile since I have been on here, but I wanted to come on and tell you what happened and has been happening since last week. My daughter took our yorkie walking last Wednesday (the 12th) and while on their walk, Gizmo was attacked by a Pitbull. My daughter was obviously traumatized by having to see it happen and couldn't do anything about it. But..the pitbull didn't attack her, thank God, and Gizmo was not killed. If he had been a little yorkie he would have surely, but he weighs 12 lbs, so I am grateful. Anyway.. we took him to the vet. He had 1 bad puncture that was deep on his right side and 2 three inch rips down his left. Doc stapled him up, and he came back home. Well, apparently dog bites in other dogs are really nasty, and the wounds abscessed and busted. That happened Sunday. Well, since then, his surrounding skin has been rotting away and he looks like a zombie. Huge holes in his side...gross. The first side to ulcerate is a little better and finally closing up some. On a good note, he acts normal now, and is eating well and barking at everything that goes by the window again. Has anyone else ever had this happen to their puppy's skin after a bite or attack? We go back on Monday to get remaining staples out... |

| Wow! Sorry this happened... is this your regular vet? I'd be switching vets... bite wounds shoud never be completely closed... normally a drain is sewn in to flush the wound on a daily basis for 4-7 days... I hope he was put on antibiotics. What a shame! Keeping your little one in my prayers....

| Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry this happened! Poor little guy I've never had to deal with wounds, but what has your vet said about it? I would definitely think some antibiotics would be a good idea. I hope he heals up soon!

| Oh, how awful. At lease he survived the attack and if he can survive this infection, he should make it. Poor baby - it sounds like he has been and is still going through a terrible thing. I'm sure the Pitbull has been reported & quarantined, pray he was rabid and thank God your little daughter was unharmed physically, though her emotional wounds are likely bad. What an awful thing to witness. I will be praying for Gizmo and your family and that things are going to get better pretty soon. Give Giz & your daughter hugs from Tibbe and me, please. Thank you for the post and the reminder of how dangerous just walking out little dogs can be.

| So sorry to read your update! Did you know who owned the pitbull, or was he out on his own without his owner? I would think the dog's owner should be paying your vet bills.... |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Wow I am sorry to hear that. I am so glad your daughter was not hurt. And I am glad gizmo is on his road to recovery. I agree. . . And what about the dogs leash. Most places have a leash law. I am so mad at the pits owner. Owners need to be more responsible about their pets. I am so sorry your daughter and gizmo went through this traumatic event. And also you and your family. I send lots of good thoughts out to you and your family. Hugs to all Last edited by Verbena; 09-22-2012 at 02:19 PM. |

| Sorry! Obvious typo on my above post: Hope he wasn't rabid. I sure hope they ticketed the owner of that dog and he's going to keep him in the house/yard or on a very strong leash when out of the yard. Anytime one of them attacks a small dog, it is usually a case of pretty severe injuries or death. Animal Control should take that into consideration and keep the dogs in your community safe as possible by hammering that owner with a hefty ticket if that dog is from your area.

| Yes, I called the cops, obviously. According to animal control here, unless a dog bites a person, it is not an offense. Anyway, the pit owner was not home, and she was on a chain, but had gotten off while he was gone. I know she was just being territorial, but still. He is very apologetic about the incident and IS taking care of the vet bill, even though it is a little at a time. I know times are hard for everyone, and at least I didn't have to take him to court and he was more than willing to do the right thing. My daughter is almost 21 (oldest of 5 kids, others are almost 19, 15, 11 and 6) and she did have a very hard time for the first week. She felt like it was her fault, and thought she could have done something different. I think I am gonna get her a pepper spray soon... And, Gizzy is on very strong antibiotics for sure. The first ones weren't strong enough, so the vet changed him over to 2 different liquid ones. He was very good with him, and from what I read online, almost every dog bite to another dog ends up with an abscess. :-/ Thanks to you all for the support, kind words, and prayers! |

| Oh no I am so very sorry that Gizmo and your daughter went thru this ordeal. This is just so heart breaking. I'm to read that owner of the dog that bit him is taking responsibility for this. Sending out prayers for Gizmo for his recovery.

| So sorry for your terrible ordeal. Assure your daughter it was not her fault at all. What's with all the pit bull attacks lately - seems they are more frequent! Also seems none of these dogs are accompanied and on leash! Fortunately Gizmo is a tough little cookie! I know mommy will take care of him
