| May be getting more then I bargained for Keep your fingers crossed I'm wrong, but I'm concerned Lily may be pregnant (the shelter I pulled her from doesn't spay them first when they're being pulled by a rescue, they just ask you send proof of spay/neuter or a letter from your vet stating why it's been delayed within 30 days). I could be wrong, but something isn't right, I'm not noticing her tits/vulva swelling, but her abdomen is definately swollen, and when I palpate her I feel "something" that I'm thinking may be a couple puppies inside her I'm going to take her to be rechecked by the vet on Friday, but I noticed she was thicker in the middle when I got her and mentioned that to the vet this past Friday and he didn't seem to think much of it......I'm really hoping she's not, at her age she doesn't need to be having puppies, but with the other problems we're addressing right now, I don't want to put her through surgery yet either, her bloodwork was just a little off, probably due to neglect and dehydration, but my vet and I both want to see her settled in and in a bit better condition before worrying about putting her through surgeries. Keep your fingers crossed that there's some other explination for this, and Lily isn't pregnant! Since we're guessing she's at least 10, and not in the best body condition right now, I don't know if she can physically handle raising a litter!

| Sadly, yes ;( She's far to old to be having babies! And 10 is just a guess, since she came into the shelter as a stray we really don't know how old she is - She could be older, she could be younger, there's just really no way to know for sure. I'll see what my vet says Friday, and get an ultrasound done if there's any question. If she is pregnant I guess him and I will have to have a long talk and hard decision on if it's safer to let her have the puppies, or risk spaying her now and aborting the litter. At her age, I'm sure the chances of her needing a c-section to have them are pretty high. Some might depend on how far along she is, either way it'll be risky ;(

| well, not really movement but I feel SOMETHING in there. She's not drinking/peeing any more then I'd call normal, and has no other symptoms of Cushings, so I don't think that's it - Her liver values where about all that was normal, her kidney values where slightly elevated, and alot of her bloodwork was off, or borderline - I'm sure alot of that, though, has to do with her eating and drinking little while she was at the shelter. Her appetite is just fine here. She pretty much finishes what I give her and then walks way from the bowl.

| Me to I really don't want to have to make the decision on weither to abort puppies or not, normally they'd be no question, I'd just let the mom have the babies and make sure they where all spayed/neutered before they went anywhere, but in this case, I just don't see how it's possible for Lily to raise them - She's old, she's blind, she's not in the best health at the moment, she needs to be taken care of herself and regain her own strength and health, not have to deal with raising babies!

| Ya, exactly! I mean, if we see fetus on the ultrasound, we could get a good idea by their size and development if the dad was big or small, but it's really hard to know much, and it could be extremely dangerious for her ;( I have to say, I'd probably be leaning towards aborting if the vet felt there was any way she was well enough to handle being spayed immediately. It may sound horrible, but to me, Lily is what's important, and if she died having the babies, I'd feel awful! Not to mention that, sadly, there is no lack of yorkies and yorkie mixes in the shelters and in the classifieds here ;( So many die because there just aren't enough good committed homes to keep up with all these back yard breeders pumping then out constantly
