| CocoTherapy recommends up to 1 tsp per 10 pounds so I suppose you could give your yorkie up to 1/2 tsp daily. I'd start out with maybe 1/4 tsp initially though. Toki weighs a little over 9 pounds and I only give her 1/2 a tsp which seems to work well |

| Since coconut oil is a food...not a drug...there is no "dosage" per se just as there is no "dosage" of lettuce or cauliflower. Some governing bodies have published 'guidelines' for 'daily allowances' but if you research those, you may discover they are inadequate, as well. Drugs, however, have dosages...limits...due to side effects and toxicity levels that have resulted in testing labs when certain amounts are exceeded...such as liver failure occurring in humans at 4,000 units of acetaminophen, which is why that warning is on the label. Coconut oil has a positive influence on metabolism (it is weight reducing) so it won't even make you or your dog fat if bunches of it are eaten. Of course, you can 'pace' your pets or hold them to certain amounts, if you want, or due to the expense...or follow the recommendations, guidelines, or examples of others. However, it is nutritious, and can not only supplement feedings, it can, as I understand it, replace them in a pinch or with an ill pet or human. It is today still a primary ingredient in tube feeding formulas, and it used to be a main ingredient in infant formula...now supplanted by lesser quality ingredients. It is lauric acid rich, surpassed only by mother's milk...brain food. My Yorkies lap it out of my hand until I've gotten tired of them trying to beat each other to the hand...mostly Brody 'stealing' Mia's coconut oil, and when I've had enough, I give them one last round and quit pouring it into my hand for them for a little while...lol Their heads snap round real quick when they hear 'the lid' turning. They have never had any ill effects from the qualtities of coconut oil they've eaten...not even runny poop. If you research coconut oil even a tiny bit it becomes easy to see how healthy a substance it is, and that it is good for many things. But, you already know that from your "Yeast Infection" thread (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...infection.html)...lol If you are wondering how much to give your baby to eliminate yeast (candida), I'd go for more...lots more...not less...at least until a balance is re-established, then re-evaluate. Your baby will quit when it's enough.

| I follow this guideline, too. Tatiana is about 3 lbs, and she receives about 1/2 tsp per day. Tatiana is prone to dry, itchy skin. Coconut oil and fish oil remedied that. Also, I think they're good for her coat. |

YT 500 Club Member | I am taking her to the University of Illinois on Tuesday to be seen by a dermatologist. We switched her BB to Hills ultra allergan about a week ago but the vet said it would take 6 weeks to see a difference. I will update after our appointment on Tuesday as what they tell me |

| Something else to consider...remember, pet foods are made from the same ingredients as people foods: Jeffrey Smith’s new documentary Genetic Roulette—The Gamble of Our Lives is turning out to be a life-changer, and you can watch it for free online from September 15-22 at: Genetic Roulette MovieGenetic Roulette | The Gamble of Our Lives

| Just about anywhere, these days, thank goodness...even Amazon (NOW Foods Coconut Oil, Virgin, Organic, 20 Ounce... ) has a 3-pk of 20 oz ea and the Now product is a good, creamy, tasty, reasonably priced product, also Tropical Traditions is excellent, and there are many other good products. Make sure to get only organic virgin coconut oil...if the package doesn't 'say' it, it doesn't 'contain' it.
