| Pancreatitis - Encouarging words needed. So my baby got really sick this morning and had to go to the vet asap. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis. Im really trying to hold it together...They said her levels were off the charts and so they got her on an IV asap. She has to stay over night, which is where i worry the most b/c no one is there to check up on her. They said they were going to put a cone on her just in case she tried to mess with her IV, which honestly worries me, b/c i know when she was spayed she fought with those things to get them off. They are open tomo 8-12. And she has been there since about 11:30 this morning. So the doc is going to check her tummy then to see if she is still tense, and if she isnt, then he is going to do some more blood tests to see if she's doing better. But b/c her levels were so high i know that there is a chance that she might need to stay on the fluids for another day. Im just looking for encouraging words. Just likie everyone else says, this is my little love and it is so hard not having her here with me now. I stayed at the vet with her for 3 hours just loving on her, i couldn't bring myself to leave.......

| Oh no I am so sorry!! My Peanut had pancreatitis a couple months ago, his case wasn’t as severe. He stayed in the hospital for 2 days ( Sat and Sun) he didn’t spend the night.. I know it is really hard to go through, I think the hardest thing is seeing them sick.. You are doing all you can for her. Just stay strong!! Sounds like she is in good hands and they are doing the best they can for her. I will keep you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers. Maybe you should tell them about her previous battle with the cone!! At least if they know they can take the precautions to make sure she is safe!!

| I'm so sorry ((hugs)) I had to leave Jackson overnight for what they thought was pancreatitis, but later we found out it maybe wasn't. But either way... I CRIED my eyes out when I left him... We are like SUPER attached. He stayed from like noon when we got there on a Sunday thru Monday night around 7pm on IV's. And he was sooo scared when I picked him up, he had expressed his anal glands and his butt was all smelly and nasty. I felt so bad, and missed him so much. It is for the best, she will be better in no time.

| I am so sorry your baby is going through this. I had one that had Chronic Pancreatitis. I know how hard it is leaving them at the Hospital. Since there is no one there at night is it possible to have her transferred to ER Vet for over nights? This is what I did. I know it's not always possible to do that. I do know if the Pancreatitis it's always best for them to have at least 3 day's of IV Fluids. Prayers going out for your baby.

| Kasey, Sophie Kate also suffers from Pancreatits I know it is so hard to leave them overnight at the vet. You did the right thing by taking Bailey to the vet right away, as hard as it is to leave her the vet needs to get fluids in her. Make sure when you speak with the Vet tomorrow you find out exactly how her levels are. Also do not be surprised if Bailey is on a prescription food for awhile (Sophie Kate is on Hills ID for life). Be strong, don't worry about the cone and lets hope your baby comes home tomorrow. Keep us posted please.

| I will keep her in my prayers. I would see if there is a vet open at night they could switch her over to until morning. I would not be leaving my baby overnight if no one was there. She could rip out the IV, fight the cone, get worse, have to go potty and lay in it, or a number of other things.

| Some dogs are more prone to this issue than others but I think smaller dogs have a bigger problem with pancreatitis. They can't tolerate what a human would consider a small amount of a rich food. Hope your girl is doing better. My mother's dog had a severe attack of pancreatitis after eating some chicken skin. He did get back to his regular diet after a month or so though. We sometimes do not realize that there is a huge difference in the way dog's process food than humans do and our little dogs find it out the quickest. I hope your little girl had a good night at the vet's. I would have been asking them to let me stay with Gracie! But I'm a "bit" obsessive about her. Certainly can understand how you felt. Hope to hear she is home soon. Last edited by gracielove; 09-15-2012 at 02:59 PM. |
