| Is doggie daycare safe for little yorkies? Hi! I am the proud mom of a 7 mo old yorkie. Right now she is 3lbs and she is very friendly and active. However, she does not have any puppy friends. She used to have a great time playing with her siblings before I took her home so I'm sure she misses that interaction. When we are around other dogs she cries to play with them but they are usually too large and aggressive. I am planning to enroll her in doggie daycare soon so that she can play with other dogs. I've done my research and found a place that I am interested in that has cameras so that you can watch your dog, which I know is pretty standard these days. She will be placed with dogs up to 25 lbs, which to me is still pretty large in comparison to 3 lbs. I'm just afraid for her to get hurt, but maybe I'm being too over protective because this is my first dog. Has anyone else had any good or bad experiences with taking their little babies to doggie daycare? |

| personally i would never put my 3 pound yorkie in a daycare where she would be with dogs any bigger than 10 pounds , even that would be iffy... one wrong step from a 25 pound dog could be fatal . i would rather enroll in a puppy playgroup with other toy dogs where i myself can be there to supervise. that is just my opinion . |

| Hi and welcome fellow Marylander I agree with my Oscars Mom. Georgie is 4lbs and I would be a nervous wreck with him around 25lb dogs without my supervision. I would worry about being hurt on accident while playing or running. If it were me I would find a dog park and take her for weekend visits. Good luck!

| I think a doggy daycare would be very risky.

| Doggie Daycare Thank you all for your input! I agree that a 10 lb dog would be the largest that I would be comfortable with her being around without me being there. Those of you with smaller yorkies like me know that people that have never owned a little dog usually don't understand the amount of supervision that they need. The only thing that made me feel somewhat comfortable about the doggie daycare that I am considering is that they told me that there are yorkies there smaller than her that she can play with. I have tried to find meetups and playgroups for her but no luck. I'm thinking maybe smaller dogs just aren't that popular in my area. Hopefully I will figure something out soon, I will be going back to grad school soon and I don't want to leave her home alone all day. |

you are welcome. yes these little guys do require some extra work. possibly you could purchase an ex pen and put her potty pads and bed and toys and her food in there . maybe you could hire a dog person to come over around lunchtime to take her out of the pen and play with her for an hour or so and refill her food and water .. as long as she is healthy and has food and water available and you had someone to come check in on her , i think she would be fine to stay at home.. | |

| Sometimes petco has puppy play date things. I would only feel comfortable at a doggy daycare if they temperament test and brake the dogs down into small groups by size. Up to 25 pounds seems really big for a 3 pound yorkie and I would be worried about it especially with a puppy.

| There are a few members that live in the Baltimore area on YT. My office is near Baltimore. I think at some point us DMV'ers are trying to set up a play date. I agree people who don't have small dogs don't understand. My brother says let him play you treat him like he isn't a dog.... My reply is you're right he is so much more to me then a dog

| I might leave Tibbe with a toy dog daycare if they passed a Secret Service clearance and I had vetted them in all spheres for about 6 mos and scoped the place and its people out head to toe and questioned them on how they handle things such as medical emergencies, etc. (Thank goodness I'm not obsessive or anything!)

| I am a paranoid mama too. I am a nervous wreck even leaving our two at our daughters homes. One has a silky the other 2 chi's lol. Personally I would feel safer with them home in an xpen than in a daycare. When we go to our local petsmart and look through the window to the daycare there they have every size dog mixed its scary for me just to see it.

| I have always wanted playmates for Cali but I am afraid to leave her somewhere with people I don't know. Maybe over protective, I guess! Just could not stand it if something happened!

| Doggie Daycare Thank you for your responses Jada has a section of the house that is gated off just for her, so I'm not really worried about her getting into anything, I just want her to be able to play and socialize with other dogs. I agree that the DMVers should definitely get together for a playdate, that would be great!! And I totally agree that people need CIA level clearance to watch Jada, I won't even leave her with family!! I wish there was a daycare that had a 10lb and under group, but the smallest group is usually 25 and under. One place that I called separated the dogs into two groups my temperament and they told me the largest dog in the group with Jada would be 70lbs!!! Ridiculous! I honestly thought they were joking at first. |
