| Am I starving my bay girl? Hello, My baby Milly is 14 weeks and weighs 3.8lbs. I got her last Friday and have started gradually changing her food to Acana Puppy, Small Breed formula. The person who had her before was giving some "noname" dog food. My question is, how much should I be feeding her daily? The bag says 1/3 of a cup or just under, daily. That doesn't seem like much at all. She walks around after she is done eating acting like she is still hungry. Is this normal behaviour? Any advice is greatly appriciated Thanks so much, Shelly |

| My baby does the same thing and I know she is well fed. She's just a vaccuum cleaner when it comes too food. I feed her twice a day. I used to feed her 3 smaller meals a day but I noticed she wasn't eating the 3rd meal so I went back too two larger meals a day. Same amount a food a day but for some strange reason she didn't like it when I broke it down to 3 meals a day instead of two. At 14 weeks, she is still growing. Some advocate free feeding for puppies, others prefer scheduled feedings to better monitor "output". Do you feed her any snacks or treats in between meals? Do you have nutrical on hand? Has she been vet checked? If the vet gave her thumbs up, just chalked it up to having a little piggy. . |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey's breeder suggested I free feed until he was at least 7 months old. They go through growing spurts the first year and some days they hardly eat anything and other days they can't get enough. Puppy food has more calories than adult food because it's often hard for them to get all the calories they need. If you don't want to free feed, I would feed at least four times a day and it's said that they won't over eat as long as you are giving them a high quality kibble. Kibble should be just tasty enough to tempt them to eat, but not so tasty they will over eat like they would with human food. By the way, about Nutri-cal, most dogs don’t need it, it’s mainly corn syrup (sugar) that is used to treat low blood sugar, unfortunately some people use it to prevent low blood sugar and if given without protein, it can CAUSE low blood sugar. Once a dog is 4 pounds, you really don’t have to worry about low blood sugar unless there is some type of illness or infection.
