| Poor Depressed Zach On Sunday our cat Lexi died of a resperatory problem. The problem is Zach was so close to her. He used to play with her and sleep with her and sometimes share a dish of cat food. He's been looking for her for almost two days and although I have other cats, she was the one he loved. He's not interestedf in playing and just picks at his food. He doesn't even want to play with the other dogs. I don't know what I'm going to do with him. I miss Lexi alot also but Zach is really upset and depressed over this. |

All we can do is allow that good old healer - time - take over. Of course more cuddles, more trying to play, more diversion, and lots of tlc for both of you. I wish I had the answer, but my thoughts and prayers are with you both. Sally + Harry x | |

| Several years ago I saw a cat that had been hit by a car and a dog standing over it out in the road. Broke my heart. I was thinking they must have been raised together. Its so sad to see one grieving. Our little Mandy grieved when Max died and it took several weeks for her to get back to being herself. Its hard but in time it will get better for your baby. Just give him extra love and kisses. |

| I am so sorry. Hopefully after a while he will go back to his normal self. When I was growing up we had a dog we rescued and she was amazing and we got a beagle puppy and although she was spayed she thought this pup was hers she taught him how to play tug and stuff like that and she would flip his ears over and clean them she was like his mom but a disk in her back broke and she could only drag her back legs so my dad took her to the vet hospital and this was when surgery was still kinda experimental so she had to be put down and it was so hard for us even 12 years later me and my mom still cry talking about her but our beagle did bad for awhile he lost weight and became very scared of things but after a while he finally started to move on. It was sad seeing him so sad.

| Poor baby. The only thing I know that helps is time and maybe extra attention. So sorry for your loss, hugs for you and your family.

| I am so sorry you lost your cat, and poor Zach's reaction doesn't help a bit. The poor dear baby...it is so sad when they grieve for each other. I have had cats and dogs grieve like this, and there is little you can really do to console them sometimes. Even all the extra love and closeness you give them doesn't replace their sadness or sense of loss. All of mine did find a way to 'move on' although I did have to reunite one dog with his daughter to clear his mind of his loss...assure him she was well and happy...which she was. Other times, I've had cats 'pay tribute' to the grave of their loved one, or their body, too...they just HAD to see them one last time. Even Brody, who'd just come to live with us when a kitty he hardly knew died, Brody KNEW AND UNDERSTOOD, and took DH to the kitty that had passed, then took me to the site when I got home...AFTER kitty had been buried as was no longer there...because Brody wanted to show me. Kitty was downstairs, and Brody never goes downstairs...even to this day. It is very strange indeed what the animals do when they lose one of their own...and very amazing, sad and touching, too. Again, I am so sorry this has happened. Try everything...who knows exactly what may help. Sincerest condolences and lots of hugs from us to you and yours.

| I'm sorry for your and Zach's loss. I had a mom and daughter mini schnauzer for several years. When the mom died, the daughter literally cried...I'd never seen or heard anything so sad. Only thing that helped was time, extra snuggles and love. Hope you both snuggle each other alot and help each other though this.

| I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty... this thread is giving me gooseflesh! Truly amazing how animals grieve... and so sad. I thought when my older pups passed, it would be just me and Peek A Boo for a while. All he did was sleep and I got so worried for him... no interest in anything not even going for walks. Then I decided to get another dog for him, and we got Tink. He was not thrilled with Tink, lol, so I found Sapphire.... he does like her. And we also got our Biewer, Infinity, who just pesters everybody! But, Peek is running around like a puppy again... an old man trying to keep up with 'the Girls'! They don't leave him alone long enough to be sad...

| Thank you all for your condolences. Zach is coming along a little better now although he is still a bit quiet. My other dogs have been trying to consol him and it's really amazing how animals can sense something. Hopefully he'll be back to himself an a few days. |
