| refused to eat Hi guys new in town and need some advise. We got a 7 mths old yorkie 3 days ago and for the last 3 days, he eats less than 20 pellets of the small puppy kibbles. The pet shop told me maybe it is adjusting to the new environment and it is eating well in the shop. the yorkie has been playing with my westie for the past 2 days happily and it no longer resist us petting but it still refuses to eat much. it is very skinny, we can feel the bones on the back and its rib cage. I hope to make it a fat little happy doggy but what can i do to make it eat. It has been very active and we are afraid it might loss more weight. We have tried TOTW salmon and Over baked traditional lamb, both doesn't work. It don even takes treats until it is super duper hungry.... thanks in advance |

| You might try giving pup some nutrical it will perhaps keep pup from its sugar getting low. Call your vet inquire with them as well. I also cook up some chicken and brown rice add some green beans or veggies on top so to prime appetite, do not over feed just put some on top of their kibble. I would try a little cottage cheese too, or Yogurt Plain. You might check and find out what kind of food pet place was feeding. Welcome to Yorkietalk. It is a wonderful site, with a wealth of info. These are just my opinion but I am sure you will get more help from others. Sometimes pet shops give shot prior to them leaving too. Unfortunately this happens alot with pet store pups. Hope some of thse suggestions help. We love Pictures here too feel free to post lots!

| Has he been to the vet yet? When ever you get a dog the first thing you need to do is have a vet check and then I would ask the vet about eating. He may still be adjusting. Also please in the future do not buy a puppy from a pet store they all get there puppies from puppy mills.

Vet is scheduled to be next week so hopefully before than he starts eating. Other than buying, how should we get a dog? We have tried adopting twice but both times it doesnt work out, trust me we have tried not buying...We love to save life by adoption but sometime it aint so simple. |

| I would get her into the vet... She could be very sick as she came from a pet store where puppies are usually taken from puppy mills. Let us know what the vet says.

| I didn't know yoy could get TOTW in Singapore wow. What's the water intake 22you kibbles of TOTW in a higher fat protein and calorie like the lamb x2 daily is the right amount for a puppy...I'd do it x3 daily personally. I prefered feeding my dogs the roasted wetlabd foul they ate it vetter and did better eating it.

| You live in the nation of Singapore? Here is the U.S.A buying dogs from a pet store is usually a bad idea because they are bred in puppy mills. The puppy mills are known for very poor breeding practices and tend to produce sick animals with genetic defects. Did you get any type of guarantee from the pet store about your puppy's health? Most pet stores here have contracts that are pretty much meaningless but they do require the buyer to have the dog vet checked within 2 to 3 days. Boiled chicken (without the skin) that is cut up very small can be put on your puppy food with a little bit of water that you boiled it in. That may help to get your puppy to eat. It is probably old enough not to get hypoglycemic but you should watch him closely since he is not eating well. Vet should check the teeth to make sure they are alright. I would also be concerned about the liver function since the appetite is so low. How much does your dog weigh? |

| hi guys, appreciate all useful tips! Ok, Mocca(our under weight yorkie) is pretty picky about food. We have settled for Oven-baked traditional(salmon) for him and his older brother(westie) It seems that he is shadowing what our westie does. if our westie sleeps, Mocca sleeps. If Nachos feeds, mocca feeds. Hell, Mocca even stick to our westie when out for walks. He loves to stick real close to our westie. So in order to make Mocca eats, all we need to do is show him nachos(our westie) eating too... and mocca only eats hand feeds.... I will hand feed him till he is overweight than we will stop doing so. Need to buff him up a bit before we go "hard core" with his food training :P Yup, we are in Singapore. Visit to the vet has revealed nothing with Mocca so its a good sign. Only problem is under weight. He is 7 mths old but weighs only 1.8kg. just to clarify, the shop we bought Mocca is the same shop we bought our Westie Nachos. They are a breeder themselves. We have surveyed a few breeders before we settled for this place. his pups are usually of good quality and health and his place never smells of dog poo/pees... thats what attracted us. | My Gracie was a very picky eater as a puppy. It does help to have another animal around that wants the food. It makes for some competition for food. Your pup is very under weight. Did your vet suggest a high calorie diet to help him? He needs a nutricious puppy food in order to form healthy bones, teath and organs. Salmon is fine but he needs other nutritional sources in order to be healthy. Maybe mix the salmon in with his puppy food. A healthy diet will prevent health problems later on. |

The vet did mentioned about mixing with other home cook meals like potatoes/rice or fruits/vege to make him eat. Our intention is only kibbles for our furry friends nothing else. Will monitor closely on his intake. For the last two days, his appetite did improved though. Am also giving him treats with calcium on alternate days and hard boil eggs(1/4) with the shells twice a week. | |

| Oh, yeah I had to hand feed Gracie, too. I would have stood on my head if I could have gotten her to eat dog food. I did home cook food for her for several months. I found she ate better if I just boiled her chicken and sweet potatoes and added some other vegetables. She hated grains. White potatoes can cause some problems so I'd try sweet potatoes, they are more nutritious anyway. I finally got Gracie on a commercial raw diet and she eats that without trouble. It took a lot of study and trial and error before we got it right though. With your puppy being so below the normal weight he should be I would do what ever is possible to get him eating nutritious food. |

| hi guys, updates on my underweight Mocca. He is now 2.4kg! he is kind of small so he looks a bit pregnant. lol. but the vet say should not go above 2.6 due to his size. and the roles has changed. Its the westie that refused to eat now... Mocca eats non stop... am switching to Home cook meal soon mainly it is so difficult to make the westie to eat kibbles now and also for better health. do share if u do HCM too. Cheers! |
