New member & first time yorkie owner! I just got a little yorkie-my first. She is very tiny & has several probs. I was told she is a blue skin, 5 months old, 2-lbs, has coccidiosis-she also has a eye infection & looks like she has or may have had mange. She has rough little spots on her ears (like bites-no sign of fleas) & lots of hair missing, especially on her rear area & ears. I just got her & she going to the vet first thing tomorrow. The lady I got her from is suppose to be a rescuer, if you ask me...all the dogs she has needs rescued from her. Anyways I am from ohio & am happy to be part of the group. I havent named her because she looks so bad, I want to wait til she gets healthy & we see her personality so we get a fitting name.I hope I get good news tomorrow. I have already order a few outfits from Rena & cant wait to get them. She is so tiny...I want to let her sleep with me but I have other dogs so I cant til she gets a clean bill of health. I dont want everyone else to get sick (the dogs)If you have any info about blue skin yorkies or other wise that might help get & keep this girl happy & healthy let me know. -Rachel

Wow, I think you're right about the rescue. A real rescue would have fixed that dog up more than that before finding her a new home. Obviously that rescue lady wanted all of the profit and none of the vet bill. I hope she didn't overcharge you because all of those medical problems are going to really add up. Did she even take her to the vet or is it from her own diagnosis? Did she say anything about that dog's backround? Is she a mill puppy or abused? Obviously she was neglected of medical care. Any communicable diseases etc? I am glad the little dog found her way into your arms. I know you are going to take better care of her than that lady. There are alot of "rescues" that end up being scams nowadays. I really hope this wasn't one of them. Take care and please let us know how it all went and if she'll be okay.

Welcome to YT. I sure hope the vet has some good news for you today. As far as I know, only 1 person on here has had a "blue born" Yorkie or atleast is familiar with one. Everything I have read online about them lead to serious health problems. The loss of hair may not be due to neglect, though other things are. I have read that they are usually in a lot of pain. If you go to google and type in "blue born Yorkie" you will find info that may help you with some issues this poor little puppy may/does have. I don't want to list them, it is something you will want to read for yourself. Please post after you get back from the vet.....hopefully there is a little miracle in store for both of you. By the way, did the "rescue" person explain ANYTHING to you about the health issues of a blue born? I pray the little girl will be able to lead a healthy happy life with you

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | BLESS HER HEART !! She sure needs you and many of the things you described are totally treatable - it sure sounds like that breeder needs to get OUT of that business or treat the rescues she takes in ....poor little girl - she must be miserable and to have coccidia at that age to me is kind of scary....You SHOULD be watching for signs of your other pets getting it...She could have ear mites too ? Here is an adult Blue Born - This is Julian.... sent to me by Whispersmom who can tell you much more than I can - I know their hair just kind of breaks off when trying to grow but Rini can tell you WAY More about them & I'll make sure she sees your post. I know she wouldn't mind me posting this - in case you want to see an adult Blue Yorkie...first shot is showing the hair - then a small face shot - LOOKS All yorkie to me ! GOOD LUCK with your new baby - it sounds like she's in a far better place with you than she was at her other 'home' |

Welcome to you and your baby. You are doing the right thing baby is going to the vet first thing. Most of the time rescue will tell you all that is wrong medically with a dog and what treatment the animal has been given. Standard policy is also to alter- may not have due to your babies size. I have known resuce to alter the little ones anyway. They use very good vets. Please let us know what your vet says.

Rachel, welcome to YT. As for your Blue born..I am not an expert but I probably know more about them than most other people. I took a little female from a breeder a few years ago and made it my aim to learn as much as possible about the syndrome, or whatever. Please e-mail me at my Whispersmom2003@Yahoo.com and we can chat about the concerns, treatment and more. Your baby probably will have a lot of problems associated with a compromised immune system which sounds like what you are describing in your post. PLEASE get in touch with me so we can work together to give this baby some quality life while she is with you. Many vets have no idea about these little babies and sometimes, they cannot be treated with the same meds, etc of normal Yorkies... Do not let the baby sleep with you and your other dogs til the mange is diagnosed and treated or ruled out. I suspect it is NOT mange but you just never know. Let us know what the vet said and how things are going with her--------and you..

And, Villette, you know you can post any of the pics I have sent to you. The biggest reason I have some of the pics from other people's pups is to use as teaching tools. So, thank you for posting her pic. BTW, her name is Jillian...
