| Do you think...... A dog can tell what breed another dog is by just smelling? Because our fire inspecter lady came(for the daycare) and she really liked Joel and showed me a pic of her 2 yorkies, which they were so cute. Joel liked her more than other people he sees and was sniffing her and following her. He would just sit in front of her and stare at her, she said he sences that shes a yorkie person, lol She said she was surprised he didn't bark at all, and said she got her yorkies debarked I thought she was joking, I didn't even know that could happen,it seem kinda sad to me. So just wondering what you thought, oh and Joel "marked" her shoe Thankgoodness it didnt get on her shoe and I cleaned it before she saw,lol |

| What a funny boy! Maybe she knew she debarked her yorkies and decided to pee on her because of it?

| That's terrible that she debarked her dogs. I don't know that dogs know about breeds like we do but they can definitely smell other dogs.

| Nothing to do with Yorkie senses but: "Debarking" a yorkie - or any animal for that matter - is simply abuse. Purposely damaging the vocal chords of a yorkie is utterly outrageous. Our terriers are supposed to bark!!!!!! That lady shouldn't own ONE, let alone three. She should have selected a different pet - like a cat. Maybe that's the real reason your baby pee'd on her... That's just MHO. Last edited by luvlee; 08-13-2012 at 09:14 PM. |

| I don't beleive in debarking but some people have been put in a position of debarking or loosing their dog due to numerous barking citations. Its a hard call and manu show breeders do this standardly with their breeding stock. I like Joel's response to a debarker... I have no reason other than n assumption but I do think to a degree dogs can recognise various breeds. I really wonder if different breeds have different smells.

| When Peek A Boo first saw my neighbor's Yorkies he was so excited... different than when he sees other breeds... I think they can definitely tell... sight and/or smell.

| Yes, I think Joel knew she had debarked Yorkies and decided to express his opinion about it! Good for you, Joel! |

| Luna is a "Yorkie Snob" She doesn't like most other dogs, but other Yorkies she loves I wonder if they can smell the difference on a person, that's an interesting question

| Possibly...and maybe not just by smelling. DH and I were having a veg day and we were watching YouTube's auto-play one after 'nuther on the 65" widescreen, so plenty of viewing space...lol...lots of animal vids...and no real attention paid by the Yorks. T.h.e.n...a video of a Yorkie barking started playing, and both Brody and Mia stopped dead in their tracks, spun around facing the TV and started barking too. So, I don't know if they were 'supporting' the Yorkie on the video in whatever 'quest' s/he was 'pursuing' or whether they 'knew' s/he was another Yorkie and were 'supporting' the York because of it...but there was NO REACTION from them for any of the other breeds of dogs, cats, or other animals who were 'speaking' in the YouTube videos. We plan to revisit this one day and 'test' to see if they seem to really be able to tell... Wouldn't that be so cool...if they can?

However I'd rather see a dog febarked than taken by animal control and pts. There was an entire VS special in how some dogs cannot be trained to not be barkers...like my neighbors puggles they bark bark bark bark bark batk bark bark bark bark (see my point) all day long as soon as my neighbor gets home rthey are quiet. I bribed our nasty neighbor and took the blame twice for her dogs one more citation and she's done court hearing...
