| Jack-Jack's Story- any advise? Hi all! Jack- Jack was found in a stranger's backyard (it was assumed he had been tossed over a 6ft privacy fence!) horribly malnourished, you can feel each backbone he is so skinny and what is left of his coat is brittle and wiry. Found fliers were posted and the little guy was vetted. When no one came forward we went, picked him up, and gave him his forever home. We currently have him on satin balls which he gobbles right up . Naturally, he is fairly reclusive but coming around wonderfully. He is a goof- will act so happy and playful but then, suddenly, it is like he realizes he is still not quite sure about this weird, new place, and scurries off to assume his corner of the bathroom. My questions are; should we allow him to spend his days in the bathroom or leash him to get him used to us? Should we have him solely on the satin balls until we get the weight back on him or mix it with dry food- we have some dry food just out, but it goes ignored? And, in addition to the satin balls being good for his coat, is there anything you would recommend to help with that? Thank you all very much. |

| Jack-Jack looks like such a sweetie. I have not ever heard of satin balls. If it is something that you can mix with a little kibble that would be good. Soft food only is not good for his teeth. He obviously wants to be a member of your family and it sounds like you are doing everything right. You might try to encourage him to sit next to you on a blanket. I put a small blanket were ever I want Mina to be,so she knows that it is her place. This is how I taught her to be in the car and in our travel trailer. Maybe he will decide that next to you is better than the bathroom. His hair will probably improve with good nutrition and that will take a bit of time as well. |

Max Main's Mamma Donating YT Member | Awwwee. That was very noble of you to take on Jack-Jack (cute name btw!). He looks like a sweetie pie. I think if he got a little haircut it will make his hair look and feel healthier. Congrats on your new little one.

| Poor little baby. So glad he has a home with you now. If I'm correct, I think the Satin Balls are only to put weight on fast. I would, and I'm sure no expert, just introduce kibbles and maybe some wet food mixed alittle at a time. I would ask the vet first, but, I would think getting him on some good vitamins wouldn't hurt either. What a sweetie. Praying for the best for your family and Jack. |

| Ok, I will mix in kibbles on some feedings.. I will also try to see if he will take any by hand (which was the only way he took even the satin balls to begin with). I am afraid to cut or mess too much with his hair lest any more fall out . The guys that found said they gave him a bath to get most of the sticker burrs out, but boy is he still a little stinky! But I am afraid to bathe him again, both because of possibly loosing even more coat and drying out his skin, and I don't want to risk what little trust we have awarded by stressing him. Or do you all think it is worth it? I definitely agree with a need for him to be on vitamins and will consult the vet with what he thinks should be done on that end.. Thanks again |

| Poor little guy. So happy you have taken him in. I don't think a bath would hurt him as long as you use a gentle shampoo and conditioner on him. I would probably use a oatmeal one to soothe his skin.

Paris: Always in my ♥ Donating YT Member | Some of the stinky could be from improper nurishment also. Or bad teeth? SO great of you to help him. GIve him time to adjust and socialized with you. |

| I wonder if using some dry shampoo would be helpful, if you are hesitant to give him another full on bath. Bless you for giving him a safe and loving home! |

| Awww, he is so cute. How could anyone not want him? So glad he is in a loving home now His coat and scent will improve with time and good food If you do bathe him, just go slowly, maybe avoid the face area (a lot of dogs hate their face washed, just like little kids ) and talk/sing softly to him while bathing. Make sure to rinse very well A little organic coconut oil mixed with his food will help with dry skin/hair.

| @LunasMomma- that is my biggest question- how in the world can something so cute and sweet remain a stray long enough for his health to deteriorate so badly! Loose in Texas in July! Poor thing. I did go ahead and bathe him with condition only and a really really good rinse. Wasn't too scary and he seems to feel much better! I just towel blotted his tear stains. His teeth don't look too terrible given the circumstances- a good amount of build up which we will take care of later.. Taking things step by step We are so happy to have him and really looking forward to watching him blossom into the sweet little cuddle bug he naturally is. I can't wait to get him to the point that I can post a 'look at me in my glory now' pic! :P |
