| Have to say goodbye for a while It is with a heavy heart that I have come to the decision to not get a yorkie right now. I have been doing lots of research online and in books, lurking (and learning) here at YT since late last year with the plan of getting a yorkie at the end of the summer. My MIL has been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis (her lung tissue is turning to scar tissue, this is fatal). She is allergic to dogs and has asthma so being around a dog will make her situation even worse than it already is. I know that a lot of people with dog allergies are ok around yorkies but I just can't take the chance. If I were to get a yorkie now she would never be able to come visit us again. She has been so wonderful to my family. I just can't be selfish about this right now. Hopefully one day I will begin my search again for a little furbaby to love but for now it is goodbye.

| I'm sorry that your MIL has this condition, it must be awful I hope that someday you're able to bring home a Yorkie of your own to love, but in the meantime you are, of course, still welcome to hang out here and be an honorary "Auntie" to all of ours

| I'm so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. That's wonderful you will be there for her. Please don't go. We don't mind if you don't have a Yorkie. You can still come to the forums and join in. It may help you, and who knows, maybe cheer you up at times. It's always nice to have friends who care. I'll be praying for your mil and you also.

| I am so sorry to hear about your mil. My mom passed away 3 years ago this past July. I feel your pain. I took care of her with my dad right till the end and it was hard to watch. Now I am taking care of my dad. I will be taking him to Boston for tests on Tuesday, they are thinking Pancreatic cancer and having a tough time dealing with it. I hope other family members are helping and visiting as much as they can because the time can be really short. They gave my mom 1-2 years after she was diagnosed but only made it about 6 months. She also had Alzheimers. They say attitude helps for a longer life so try to keep her spirits up. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

| I regret your MIL's condition. You are a good DIL. Truthfully, on some level, I relate to you. Several years ago, I deferred getting a yorkie, too. There was a lot going on in our lives, and we were considering re-locating. Getting a yorkie was not a good idea, as much as I wanted one. A couple of years ago, I joined YorkieTalk. I didn't even own a yorkie yet. As fate had it, I found my yorkie on this website. Also, we were in a good place in our lives to have a yorkie (finally). And you know what? Tatiana was EVERYTHING I hoped for. She was my dream dog. If I had to do everything all over again (like defer getting a yorkie), I would not change a thing. Tatiana was worth the wait! I hope the same for you. |

| I am very sorry for your mother inlaw and your family for her recent diagnosis, soon the shock of such big words and diagnosis will wear off, I know how difficult it is, I remember when my mom was diagnosed several years ago, how scary and shocking. I really thought she would be dead before 60...she's still here! My mother is 74 years old and has had Severe Pulmonary fibrosis for several years, has had several heart attacks, has Chronic Lymphacatic Leukeimia. Currently, she wears Oxygen 24/7 on #4 (very high); additionally she wears a CPAP at night. Mom has several stents in her body. Mom is dying and has been since she was 58 years old. At this point there is nothing more they can do to help her as her lungs slowly "die"....Mom won't be here very much longer. Her Dr. cried when he told me, he has grown very fond of mom and calls her a medical marvel...readily admits that he has no idea, other than her will to live, why she is still here. My husband (jerk) has extremely severe allergies to everything, especially animals and perfumes etc. I can assure you that he is not allergic to my 2 Yorkies. Both mom and husband are around my pups ALL THE TIME, they are NOT allergic to them, however; my Miss Mini is allergic to them! Yorkies are very low on the totem pole when it comes to allergy triggers. Yorkies are not "fur" dogs, rather; they are hair dogs. They shed scant to none. I would not let your mother inlaws allergies, and especially not her illness prevent you from getting a Yorkie. Suggestion: have your mother inlaw go with you to pick a pup, do an allergy test - which in this situation would be to sit in your car with mom while she holds the pup etc., for a good half hour, DON'T GO IN the breeders house with your Ma, just the car and the pup. You will know right away if shes allergic, after you leave wait a few hours to make sure of any reaction.... If pup shows to be a serious trigger for ma's allergies you will have to pass on the pup, if not.......you will have a pup. I'm willing to bet that she has no reaction or a very low reaction. If she has a very low reaction, simply bathing the dog before her arrival should fix the trigger. I honestly think you are wrong not to atleast try..I think your ma would love it. My mom loves my pups and spends alot of time with them, her condition is NOT worsened because of it. Mom has moderate allergies, these pup do not affect her. Either way I just wanted you to know I understand your thoughts and emotions right now, and also give you another option (allergy test) I really think you should try it! We did that with my husband for our pups. My friend who is a breeder insists on the allergy challenge before she will release any of her cats! Good Luck!
