| 10 Week old Oliver: adopting Saturday Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and SO excited to be a first time Yorkie Mommy, bringing parti yorkie Oliver back to NYC from PA this weekend! This year a lot has happened: my family lost fourteen year old Charlie (we got him when I was in 7th grade) in September, and tragically in June they lost baby Cody (8 months) to bacterial infection/dehydration/hypoglycemia they think.. Oliver is one of two boys born 5/23 from Cody's Mom with a different father. My family will take the traditional little guy, Henry, and I can't wait to get Oliver into my life with fiance, Mike! We live in a studio apartment in midtown so I've invested in a Potty Training Puppy Apartment. I have taken the day to work from home on Monday so he gets acquainted with our apartment after the two hour drive back on Sunday. It's already hard to imagine leaving him at all when I go to work, but the good news is I can walk back and forth at lunchtime to play with and check on him Do you think it will be alright to leave him in the crate for the first week or so while I am at work from 9-1ish and then 2-5/6ish? Will attach a water bottle to his bedroom and the great thing about the PTPA is there is a bathroom in it that I hope he adapts to quickly so he'll be able to go while I am gone. Then, once he gets more used to using his bathroom I will plan to simply gate off half the apartment and leave him with his bed, apartment/bathroom, food water and toys to do as he pleases while we are out. Thanks in advance for your thoughts! Have a great day~ |

| Hi Alex!!! Looks like your post made it. I just found a recipe for "just in case" to have besides the Nutracal on hand. We miss Cody and Charlie so very much and hope they are together. I hope you will get some replies about apartment living and raising a new puppy. Oliver will be the city mouse and Henry will be the country mouse with us! So excited to have the little brothers visiting often. Cannot wait for this weekend. I just hope they are healthy and ready...there is a lot of love waiting for them both!!!!! |

| Hello alex413 and welcome! I am in the middle of puppy training now myself. I like the idea of the puppy apartment. Its great that you can check in on your baby during your lunches! Make sure he has plenty of fresh water and food and as the other person said, keep Nutracal on hand in case. I really don't have much to add other than I hope you enjoy your little Oliver!

| A lot depends on the size of your puppy and it's health when you bring it home. Leaving a puppy is always difficult but a small breed puppy needs to be in wonderful health and be eating, drinking and potty in a healthy manner in order to be left alone. The smaller sized pups tend to get in trouble the quickest. I hope all goes well for you. |

| A 10 week old puppy should still be with its mom until 12 weeks. I would be careful leaving it alone for more then 2 hours because they can get hypoglycemia and if no one is there to see it and help them it can kill them.

| Thank you, I am very aware of the hypoglycemia risk as mentioned in my original post through our experience with Cody and am preparing to the best of my ability. He will be 11 weeks old on Wednesday and has had all of his shots. I will be sure to feed him in the morning before I leave for work to return again around lunchtime. I am so excited and devoted to raising a healthy, deeply loved Oliver. Please try to keep your comments positive. We have had a traumatic year and are EXTREMELY paranoid and obsessive about doing everything right. |

| GOOD LUCK WITH THE NEW PUPPY. I just got my 10 week old on Monday. HER name is Allie. SHE joins my darling Yorkie Autumn..I hope they become friends. Right now Autumn is afraid of her. I'm a retired Mom, so I get to spend the day with my little darlings. Sorry for your loss, I'm sure it was very devastating. |
