| Help! Hi! I'm new to the site, but I have a question! My baby boy ( Scooby) has been limping around today, not putting any weight on his back left leg. It is beginning to worry me, but he is eating and drinking fine, an has no issues laying on that side of his body. He let me pick him up and feel all around his leg, masaauging it and feeling for abnormalities. He has none that I can find. I'm so worried about him. He has had no other health problems before. He is 5 years old and weighs 3.8 lbs. He is super sweet and doesn't appear to be in any pain. If anypne has any recommendations or experience in this, I would be so grateful. My vet is booked and I cannot get him in for at least 3-6 days. Thank you ahead for your help and posts!! |

| Welcome!! I am sorry that your baby is not feeling well. If he is not putting weight on his leg then it hurts. Dogs do not cry in pain as a norm. If your vet is booked that full I think that I would ask them to recommend another vet or take him to the ER. If there is a break of any kind an infection could set in and that would cause more problems. |

| Thank you for the advice. The horrible thing is, there are no emergency animal hospitals within 2 hours. I have some medical training (different with animals I know) but I didn't feel any breaks or abnormalities with the leg, and there is no visible swelling. I'm hoping with rest over night and in the morning he will improve. He's my baby and I don't wan him in any pain!

| With him being so tiny, he could have a fracture and I doubt you would be able to palpate it. X-rays would be in order I believe. You really should get him into a vet ASAP. As the other OP said, pups don't typically cry out when they are in pain. If you notice him shaking (like he is cold) then he is in pain. Did you also check his toes/nails? Its possible one of his toes is injured and he would not put weight on the foot. Good luck and welcome.

| yorkies are notorious for having knee problems. I'd definitely have him checked for luxating patella. |

| Make sure you get him a good physical exam and an x-ray just as a starting point. I hope that it is nothing too serious! Just be sure to monitor him for any other physical or behavioral changes until you can get in to your vet |

| If he is limping then in hurts and he needs to go to the vet. Did you explain to the vet he was limping? My vet gets us in anytime we have any kind of problem. If you cant get in to your vet I would suggest going to another one because I do not think it is a good idea to wait three days.

| He woke up this morning and he is beginning to put weight on it if he walks slowly. He slept all night without any problems and he seems to be getting slightly better. Im going to watch him today and maybe as the day progresses he will put more weight. Thank you everyone!! I will keep you updated :-)

My furkids Donating Member | My little Bentley has a slight luxtating patella in his left knee. I noticed, one day while he was running around, that he wasn't putting any weight on his left leg. I just picked him up and GENTLY pulled his leg out straight and manipulated his knee cap. Put him down and he was fine! running around like a maniac! My parents also had a small dog whos knee kept going out...she would do this as well...However...MO...I would be bringing him to the vet as well.

| Many years ago I had a tiny poodle that jumped out of a chair and broke her leg. Her bones were so tiny and the break was a green stick, meaning twisted. The vet didnt see the break on the Xray,my mother saw it. She never cryed out and just limped. Please keep us posted on how your baby is doing. |

| I've talked to our vet, and he's working him in for tomorrow morning. Even though he's walking some on it, I'm worried about him! Thank you everyone!

| Have you checked his paw pads ? Molly did this for a while too and she had little red patches on her pads between them so quite hard to see. Not sure how they came about and the vet didn't know either. I used Mushers secret on them she has not had any further problems. I thought it was LP so was relieved it wa something so simple
