| Questions about Giardia My brother has a golden retriever, Coco, that is bff's with Louie. His other dog, a golden/lab mix named Bullwinkle recently passed away so he adopted a rescue lab/sight hound mix and come to find out he sent me an email not to bring Louie over because his new rescue has giardia. I'm not worried about any exposure for Louie because he hasn't even been introduced to this new pup. However, my question is when is it okay to bring Louie over and what precautions should I take? Does this disease lie "dormant" so to say? I don't know much about it so thanks in advance for the advice! Louie is going to be sad that he can't see his girlfriend Coco for awhile but I'm definitely erring on the side of caution.

My furkids Donating Member | I am going through this with all 3 of mine right now. UGH! My vet told me that there were no cysts in their sample but it showed positive for giradia. I think to be on the safe side I would keep yours away from the infected dog until he is off his meds...I have heard this parasite is a hard one to get rid of...hope that's not the case.

| It is very contagious and hard to get rid of. They are going to have to disinfect and keep the area clean for quite a while. It's a nasty thing to deal with. |

My furkids Donating Member | my vet told me they are only contagious when there are cysts in their stool? mine didn't have the cysts.
