| Yorkie + Beach ? I want to take Bentley to the beach tomorrow for the first time, he is 4 months old. I'm not sure if I should? My friend's girlfriend said to watch out for hot weathers because dogs can get heat stroke ect? I'm stressed and kind of scared to try so I need more answers. Help?!?? |

| I don't know about the beaches in your area, but the beaches in mine mostly don't allow dogs. I would check that first.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Definitely you need to watch out for heat stroke. You need to bring shade with you, lots of water, blankets/or straw mat to place on the sand. Also very regularly cool your dog down by either walking him through the water and or just wetting him down.

When it's allowed (!!) Harry LOVES the beach.....he makes his own cooling arrangement by digging down into the sand until he finds that cool, wet place....his paws and hair get into a real mess - but HE loves it! Enjoy! Sally + Harry x | |

| We are having such really hot temperatures in so many areas I would be concerned about the heat and even the temperature of the ground and sand. It may be safer to leave him in an air conditioned room when you go out if that is possible. |

| I too was going to mention the sand getting really hot. I know that it can be very uncomfortable for me so I can imagine how it could be for their little paws. I took mine last month and thankfully it wasn't that hot and they loved it.

| If he likes the water, he can cool off that way. I've been taking my Yorkie to the beach since he was 4 months and he loved it from the very beginning. It's a great exercise and he gets to meet people. |

| This too would be my concern, if the hot sand got in between the paw pads.

| Stay off the dry sandier area, and stick to the surf where the sand is cooler, if you are worried about it being too hot on his paws. |

| Thanks for your reply ladies! We ended up not taking him, since we ended up going to the beach where they don't allow dogs. Next week we will take him down to the city where the doggy beaches are and we'll give it a try! Just for a little to get him use to the beach, and other dogs around. | I took my little one to the beach recently and she LOVED it! She was digging in the sand and running from the waves! She was a complete mess by the time we left but it was worth it! |
