| Terrified something bad is going to happen. Every time I think about Sophie's rabies vaccine appointment next week I start to cry. I am still trying to get over what happened when she had her spay and inguinal hernias surgery last month. She did not do well while under anesthesia (the vet does not recommend she go under again). She also had a little reaction to the dissolvable stitches that caused her long incision to look like a lumpy bumpy swollen mess. Thankfully she is doing great now and her incision is healing nicely and flattening out but she had a longer recovery then most. I am now terrified she is going to have a bad reaction to the rabies vaccine. Will she really be given the same amount they would give a Great Dane...Sophie is 4 pounds and only just turning 7 months old. That is just crazy. I just applied her monthly Advantage Multi 10 last night - will that being in her system effect her? (Unfortunately I have only now just read about not giving the rabies vaccine with other boosters, meds, etc.) Has anyone here on YT had a puppy not do well with isoflurane but then had the rabies vaccine with no adverse reactions? Any advice would be so greatly appreciated.

My furkids Donating Member | Do you think your vet could NOT give her the rabies where she has had reactions to these other things? My Parents dog (R.I.P. Heidi) was a sick little girl for the last 5 yrs of her life. Because of this the vet opted not to give her the rabies vaccine.

| I had my Emy's last booster and rabies scheduled on the 27th of this month, they were going to be given together, and after reading on here about some yorkies not acting like themselves, and alot of posters seemed to say it was better not to load up and give on same day I called my Vet and told her that I wanted to split up the last shot and wait on the rabies shot till she is at least 6 months old. I had left a message over the weekend, and she called me back yesterday and told me, yes that was fine, and she also does not like to give multiple shots, but that for some owners it was inconvenient, I told her I didn't want to make her sick. So she agreed with me to just give the one shot and wait on the rabies shot. So glad I read up on here, I don't want to make her sick or even feel bad. |

some states allow you to get a medical waiver from giving your dog the rabies vaccine. i do not know how it works but here is some info... The AVMA Helps to Give Us Rabies Vaccination Exemptions for Sick Dogs | Truth4Dogs

She also had her first dose of Advantage Multi last week because Intercepter is no longer available and had a bad reaction for 3 days! I personally wouldn't advise giving these medications so closely together.

| Thank you for your responses. I have given Sophie Advantage Multi 10 for three months now...thankfully she has not ever had a reaction to that (or her other vaccinations to date). Sophie is not sick and a healthy puppy so according to the vet office she is okay to have the rabies vaccine as she has not reacted to other vaccinations in the past. I will express my concern to the vet at her appointment next week before anything is given. Do Yorkie pups often react to the rabies vaccine? What are some of the common adverse reactions seen in Yorkies? I wish I didn't feel this way but after her not doing so well under the isoflurane anesthesia I am a wreck now with any little thing being given to her.

| Gracie was also 4lbs when she got her rabies vaccine. She was given her other shots in two doses and then the rabies by it's self some weeks later. She did fine. I have used the Advantage products for many years and have never had any kind of reaction. All I can do is tell you my experience and hope it helps you not to worry too much. I am considering how much I will allow them to re-vaccinate her. There are some differing opinions out there about how frequently it should be done. |

| It is recommended not to give shots all together especially rabies. Dr Dodds recommendation is to wait until they are 1 years old but it can be difficault to get around due to rabies laws. Our vet will give a half dosage of rabies for our little yorkies and also I would recommend the mercury free rabies. this has less side affects. |

| I have never had a problem with any of my pets having a reaction to a rabies vaccination. My daughter's yorkie had a little marble sized bump that came up but the vet checked it out and told me it would go away. She was right! Good luck!

What do you do about the rabies? Can you have a titer done for that? I just got the card in the mail that she is due for her other shots and I am holding off on those.
