| Grooming at home I posted a week or two ago about deciding to groom charlie myself. Well I am amazed with how good he has become for me is such a short time. Tonight was the second time and he was totally relaxed and even sort of laid down on his stomach and patiently let me groom him. He even let me groom around his face and ears with the clippers tonight. But he will not let me groom his paws and legs. lol I don't know why but he insist on fighting me once I start or touch any of his legs. So now he's running around all groomed and looking like he has parachute pants on or something. I was calling him Mc Hammer a minute ago. Thank goodness he didn't respond to it! Jk. lol It does look silly though. I'll just try again tomorrow. |

| My pup also hates having his legs touched, especially if it's for nail trimming. It's said that they are naturally protective of their legs because they are their means to mobilize. Makes sense. Good luck!

| The paw pads are what we have trouble with. They are very sensitive so I usually end up using my small blunt ended scissors on them. It takes extra long but it has to be done. |

| He wont even let me touch his legs. The groomer did it, so there must be a way. I don't mind using scissors. I'll give it a whirl tomorrow. I took him with me a while ago to my friends house and she mentioned if I groomed his legs so it must stand out. I don't want him looking funny. |

| Mine will be going back to the groomer-apparently like my skin kids they have special behavior reserved just for mom! I usually stay and watch my groomer so I know they were good with her, oh my with me they act like bulls at a rodeo! I usually do grooming with them at home on a 3 day stretch.

| I used to groom my first Yorkie, Starr, myself. Well except for the nails, I cut the quick once and had the vet do it from then on She was SO GOOD! Izzy and Luna, on the other hand, not so much. But they're good for the groomer I can't even brush Miss Luna Cotton Coat without feeling like I'm going to hurt her trying to restrain her, and it's most the legs she gives me fits with. I touch one leg, she pulls it up, touch the other, pulls it up She's a hot mess by the time the groomer gets her, but at least it's only two weeks in between

| I have been grooming Layla myself for at least 5 years and she still hates having her paws done. You would think I was trying to kill her. Layla has never bitten anyone but I always say to myself, if she is ever going to bite it will be while I try and groom her legs- especially her front ones- she just hates it! Good luck! |

| Oh I can relate. Ginger usually goes to a groomer but they did such a lousy job last time I thought I would try it myself. This past Sunday, I groomed her. She did great for the body, but as the OP said, she is running around with parachute pants for legs. She HATES me touching her legs or paws. She also has a huge head of hair as I didn't do her head yet. Will tackle that this weekend!

| I promised pictures so here they are. I tried again tonight and took these pics about a half hour ago right after I trimmed him. Don't mind the water beard he has going on in the first pic. lol But, I think we're getting better at the grooming so that's a plus. . (sorry the pics are a little blurry) |

| This is just an idea for all you home groomers and potential groomers. Most of us don't want to invest in a regular grooming table but this is a good idea to help someone that needs an extra hand when grooming but doesn't have one: Master Equipment Small Pet Grooming Tables | PetEdge.com You can set it on your kitchen table, secure you dog and snip those hard to get areas. When I had my Shih Tzu it came in very handy and the price has come down quite a bit. I still do ears and feet with Gracie in my lap but the grooming table makes the rest of the job a breeze. |

| We have massaged our Yorkies' feet and legs since they were puppies. Try this while he's on your lap just watching TV. Before long, he won't even flinch when being groomed.
