Default Found Male Yorkie

My niece found a male yorkie. She took him to the Humane Society in Wichita Kansas because he had a microchip. She called them today and they told her the owner didn't update the microchip information. Now she is worried and wants to help find the owner. Shs is going to pick him back up tomorrow and help find him a home.

Poor baby........what is the information that is on the microchip...start from there...there is a name on that chip for the people that own the dog...the phone # and address may not be updated, but the name should be the same....UNLESS they sold the dog and maybe they have the name of the new owners. How pitiful no one was interested enough, cared enough, to make sure if this baby ever got lost, there was a way for him to get back home.THAT IS WHY I PUT MY NAME AS THE BREEDER ON ALL MY REGISTRATIONS, SO I WILL ALWAYS BE CONTACTED IF ONE TURNS UP LOST. AT LEAST MY BABY WILL BE BACK HOME AT ROSEHILL......

Dear gosh he is one adorable little guy. Good luck to your niece on "fostering" him until she can reunite him with his owners who are probably missing him terribly.

Hope the owner is found soon. Poor thing.

And, such a good reminder to update a microchip.

she should also post it on Craigs list and call all the Animal Shelters in her area and check the local paper some people still with put a lost puppy add in their local paper.
Try to find the old home first. Did they give her the name and info from the micro chip sometimes just googeling a name and an area will show up something, LOl it seems like everyone has a facebook or a linkedin now or a relative has a facebook.

Something else to keep in mind, especially during the summer months is what if your pet got loose while under someone else's care when you were on vacation. My family went through a crazy and stressful time a few years ago when this happened. My sister took a cruise with her family and my parents were watching her yorkie Lucy. Lucy got out of their backyard. She had both her tags and a microchip but all the info was for my sisters home phone and address. My parents live about 40 miles from her and while they had a key to her home they did not know her voice mail pass word or how to use it, plus they were not sure of how to get a hold of her on the ship and "they did not want to ruin her vacation, because after all what could she do long distance". This was on Long Island and I live in MI, so my parents did not think I could help and did not tell me for over 3 days. They are in their 80's and are not up on computers and caller ID and stuff like that. By the time I found out they had put up some signs around the neighborhood, they were driving around, and had a friend of my sisters go to her house but she also did not know how to access their voice mail. By the time I found out I was livid that this was going on and the dog was still missing and no one told me. I tried in vain to explain caller ID to them, which if you knew my parents was impossible for them to comprehend, I also tried to talk them into inlisting some kids in their neighborhood to go door to door because I was starting to think whoever found her wanted to keep her. Shortly after I told my husband I was going to NY because I could not live with myself if I did not do more to help, the people that found her got in touch with my parents. Hard to believe but they did not see or think to check the sign on the street post or at the 7-11 at the corner of the block, they could have but did not walk up and down the block asking people if they knew of this dog. A neighbor of their's that knew they had found Lucky saw one of the signs and told them about it. When they delivered the dog to my parents it was clear that they and their young son liked Lucy and were prepared to keep her if no one came forward soon. So after that lesson, I make sure that whenever I leave Lola with someone I have a plan of action, one of the things I do is have a tag made with the name and number of the person watching her, you can do this at many places for about $5.00 I also make sure I have given the person contact info for me and that they know no matter what I should be contacted, ruining my vacation pales compared to loosing Lola. My parents bless their hearts did not want to ruin my sister's vacation, mean while she could have accessed her voice mail either by computer or by phone if needed. Since she was on a cruise and had nothing going on at home, or so she thought, she did not bother to check her Voice Mail or with my parents (again to me this is a no no). After my sister got home I asked her to check the caller Id and sure enough there were several phone calls from a 516 area code the area code my parents lived in, but since they did not understand caller ID they never checked or wanted to try. So instead they spent 4 days in living hell worried about Lucy while she was being pampered up the street about 7 houses a way. I still shake my head that this happened. Sorry for the long story.

After reading DBlain's other post I was also thinking about the possibility of someone being on vacation. I sure hope a solution can be found for this poor lost soul. Will your daughter have to pay to pick up the little guy?

She is checking everywhere. She got an update on him today and they havn't found the owner. They are going to hold him until the 17th then put him up for adoption. She was feeling so guilty about taking him to the humane society but I told her that is probably one of the first places the owner will look.

She doesn't know the microchip number and they will not give it out now.

She also had a guy call her and say it looked like his dog. But when she said he was microchipped he said that his didn't have one. So either he just wanted him or he didn't know that he was microchipped if the dog was given to him. ???

They will not release him to her now. They said she has to put $50 down and then be put on a waiting list for him. I can't believe since she is the one that took him there to help find his family that she would have to be put on a waiting list. I do understand the cost that they have in testing him to make sure he is not sick but I would think she could pick him back up since she brought him in. They are holding him until the 17th to give the owner a chance, that will be helpful if they are on vacation.
