| Question regarding coat texture Hello, When I first brought Timmy home at 12 wks he had a silver patch on the top of his head. His head is almost all silver now and the silver is spreading down the back of his neck. Is the silver hair the texture that his adult coat will be? Or will it change again? The silver hair is very fine and soft. Right now he is 5 mos old. Timmy is our first Yorkie, so just not sure what to expect. Thanks! |

| My Yorkie experience is limited to my 2 boys, but I have read a lot here and talked to breeders/exhibitors. The hair on the head is not indicative of coat type, as far as I know. You can look at the parents and often the paws to guess. If the legs and paws are really full and bushy, this is often a sign of a cotton coat. Full and bushy are subjective terms though, and you would probably have to have experience seeing a cotton vs silky coat pup. Cotton coats tend to tangle more readily than silky coats. Max was clearly silky from the start, but Teddy had puppy coat into his second year. It wasn't until well into his second year that he turned truly silky. Puppy coat is kind of fuzzy and tangles easily.

| Thank you for the reply. His coat isn't very thick. It parts naturally down his back, as opposed to being whooly. Hope that makes sense, lol. Timmy's legs don't seem thick either. I have looked at many pictures of various yorkies, so I think I understand what your saying. Whatever his coat turns out to be is fine. I adore my little man. |

When Rosie was a puppy she had little silver. Now her entire backside is silver. And I love it. She does have the silky hair. Mikki has hair that is different than Rosie's. Her hair is more like a mix of a silky and cotton. It is coarser than a silky but not as thick as a cotton. She just turned 2 and we have seen some changes over the past year. If I remember correctly, Rosie really started changing between year one and two. I'm pretty sure she was still mainly dark at 6 months old. So you still might see a lot of changes to come.
