| Dog left in car I was going to post this earlier this week but been busy taking care of my sick Josie who is much better today. On Saturday evening the 30th I had ran some errands and on my way home stopped at the local grocery store to get some more chicken to cook for Josie, trying to get her back to normal. Since I was only running in for that I told the BF to just let me off at the door I would only be a minute. When I come out he was not parked where I assumed he would be so I was walking through the parking lot looking for him. As I am looking around I hear a dog barking. I was thinking surely no one has left a dog alone in this 92 degree heat. And this was at 8pm also. I found the barking poodle in a car with the windows slightly down and the dog panting and barking. I stuck my hand in the car and he was not hot just getting warm. So I find my ride and threw the chicken in my car and said come over here I am going to call the law. He follows me through the parking lot and I am talking to the dog and waiting for someone to come out. No one did so I got my cell phone out. Took a picture of the tag and started to call 911. My BF says why not just go in and have the person paged. Okay I'll do that first. (should have called 911) So I go in the out door and as I pass the 2-registers open I ask the people at the check out if anyone owns this car. A young girl (maybe mid 20's) says I do. I said very loudly do you know you have left your dog in the car? And do you know how hot it is outside? She seemed very apologetic and we were walking out as I was scolding her pretty badly. Behind her comes the Mother I am assuming saying no dont call the law we can take care of tis now. It's okay. Behind the MOther comes another sibling cusing me out. What business is it of yours is the first she ask? With a few expletive words. I told her it was my business when I seen and heard the dog barking in the 100 degree car. As the Mother and young ddaughter and I keep walking and me telling the younger one how dangerous it is to leave the dog in the car and how she could go to jail if I called the law, Ms mouth walking behind us yells out "ITS ONLY A DOG" OMG when she said that I lost it. I was in her face, the mother was pulling her off and trying to get her in car and my BF was pulling me to the car. I was so mad I was shaking. Other people around were cussing at the big mouth girl and Mom was trying really bad to get out of there. I may have been a little too rough on the younger girl, it just ticks me off so bad how people treat animals and especially their so called pets. There were three of them and they did not have but a few items, why couldn't one of them stayed with the dog and left the A/C on. What is your opinion? And what would you have done? |

| Someone on my FB page posted a temperature chart of what the temp inside a car is when it is a certain temp outside. I had copies made of this and when I see a dog left alone in a hot car, I am going to put one of these on the window of that car!! I will also do what I can to help the distressed pet. I am so glad you took up for that poor little dog. I'm sure he was stressed out from the heat and that is why he was barking. Some people are just ignorant and don't think! I don't know what would have happened to the dog or the owners if you had called 911, but it would have been a good wake-up call for them, for sure! I hope the mom and the daughter will think twice next time they want to take their dog with them to the grocery store! I also hope they don't have to learn the hard way.

| GOOD FOR YOU!!! I actually offended someone in Bilo this week too...I was bringing Prissy back from the vet, I had her in her small shoulder carrier and went in with her in tow for less than 4 mins..I grabbed a can of spaghetti sauce and went to the register..Prissy never made a sound, and you couldnt even see her, but the manager said a customer complained..I guess the customer knew what kind of carrier it was..Anyway, I informed the manager I only needed the spaghetti sauce and there was no way I was leaving her in the car in the heat..Maybe I was wrong for taking her in but there was no way I was leaving her in the hot car for even that short amount of time...I would have done the same thing you did, and if it was "just a dog" to them, then they shouldnt have it in the first place! |

Paris: Always in my ♥ Donating YT Member | I make cards that say: DOG + HEAT = DEAD DOG The Police have been called. I put it on their car. I call the police. This makes me sick. I get so mad even thinking about it. |

I've bought a pack of those extra strong glued labels (that people might use for their luggage?) and place it right in their eye-line....with 'appropriate' words on it... Sally + Harry x Last edited by Harrysmum; 07-06-2012 at 09:31 AM.

Like, Lil Sis says too, most of the time they are gone by the time police gets there. I haven't had a chance to talk to my son yet he is LE for the city of that county. They are very pet friendly. He tells me all kind of "great" pet stories and rescue they have done.

| Good for you! There should be 100X more people just like you! Too many people decide it is none of their business. Maybe these people will think twice about leaving the dog in the car. I get so disgusted with people like this. They say they just "love" their pets and after all "the dog loves to go in the car!" Well, if they just love their dog they should not leave it in a 200 degree car and maybe consider at least getting it a seat belt to keep it safe when traveling! Miss Mouth needed some real discipline. Obviously there is not a lot of intelligence happening in that family. |

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! Zachary goes with DH and I even in the summer (Houston) but ONLY when one of us will always be in our truck. My DH is legally blind and doesn't drive so he stays in the vehicle with the a/c on when I run into a store or he goes in and I stay in the truck. You should have to have a license to get a dog......
