| We used a measuring tape or a seamstress's measuring tape. I'd measure from base of head to floor and from butt (not tail) to nose |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | My experience has been usually by 8 months...perhaps a bit earlier. This isn't a height requirement on the standard but I'd place an average on the ones in the show ring at 7 - 8 inches tall. The goal is a square, compact body. While looking at the dog's profile, the shape inside all four legs would be square. Too long in the body...you see a rectangle. It is also possible to have a dog which is square but not compact. Longer in the leg and body but proportionate. For height measure from top of wither to floor. For length...from the base of the neck to the base of tail. Some measure length from stertum to point of tailbone. hth
