| Harness Your Dogs In a Weather Emergency I live in South Florida and spent a good portion of my day on Sunday taking shelter with my dogs in the bathroom due to several tornado warnings. I put blankets on the floor and a Thundershirt on Cooper. The 3 of us sat closely together until the warnings were lifted. We were all scared. I realized that I did not put harnesses and leashes on my dogs. What if by a slight chance we were separated? I cannot even imagine the devastation of losing my 2 boys. This is just a reminder to harness and leash your dogs should you need to take cover in any kind of emergency. It may seem obvious but with the fear of the impending tornado the thought never even entered my mind.

| Oh you did have the bad weather your way. That is a great idea. I have the same fear when we had tornando warnings. What happened if my house got hit and we were seperated. Great idea thanks, I'll harness us together. |

| I realize there is much human and property devastation during these weather emergencies but I always feel so bad for the animals that have been left alone during these crisis events. Those fires in Colorado just make me feel sick. Such horrible weather conditions in this country in the last several years. I'm so glad you and your pets are safe. Great idea to keep them harnessed during emergencies. I guess people in hurricane areas keep carriers ready at all times in case they need to evacuate. I guess that would apply to flooding and fire prone areas as well. |

| Karen, will your bathroom be your go to stop for tornado warnings? You might consider keeping emergency supplies in there including a spare set of harnesses and leashes. I know in a moment of rushing, you might not consider runnin to the front door where the leashes are normally kept. (just guessing) If it were me in your shoes, I'd be running around getting ready to take shelter and trying to make the room comfortable. Having spares in there is just one more thing I don't have to worry about. I'm so glad you three are safe! I've never experienced a tornado but they sound super scary.

| I'd also suggest keeping up to date medical info and extra food a current picture of your pets (incase they get loose) and pee pads in the car in case you have to evacuate in a hurry. I just moved from OH/MI and we used to get several tornadoes a year. it was weird moving down here-I had to ask a whole different set of questions about natural disasters when I moved to GA. |

| That's a great suggestion. Of course I'll have to chase the cat around the house to catch her. She hates going in her crate. |

| wow... all good advise. I have lived in Florida most of my life. I have lived through several bad storms and hurricanes (andrew means something to people of south florida) but never with pets. Children, yes. Crazy de (looking out of sliding GLASS windows and saying things .."there goes the neighbors roof..cool"") but pets no. I really thank you all for the advice..doing preparation today!

| Yikes! Karen, I'm glad no tornadoes materialized over your home. We have tornado warnings often here, and we don't have a basement. When things are really bad, I put the boys' wire crates in the powder room in the center of the house and cover them with heavy comforters, just in case we need to take cover. Putting harnesses on the doggies too is a great idea.

| You know, I never even thought of that. Thanks for the info. Also when I get my harness I will be getting 2. One for the downstairs where we take cover. |

| I know this sounds a bit crazy, but I would do it, a woman had her dogs harnessed and leashed and tied the leash to her. She had severe weather and tornado warnings in her area, she took the dogs to a closet and tied them to her. Don't know how well that works, I hope she never has to find out.

| Duh! I had never even thought of that. I put Tibbe's collar or harness on with the I.D. tags on - but didn't think in an actual catastrophe, he'd need to be leashed, too! Fabulous idea and thank you more than I can say for posting this as I live in Texas.
