| metal leash clasp broke, got loose! hey everyone, I haven't posted here in a while since i got back to work but tonight we had a big scare. Meesha went for her daily walk around the block the same routine as always. well a guy came suddenly came out of the woods on an atv and revved it before i had time to pick up meesha, next thing ya know shes gone!!!, the metal broke right in half of the round hook you open to hook onto the harness! she took off running all the way around the block... in the middle of the road !!.. cars didn't stop but dodged her luckily at the end of the street a nice girl jumped out of her car, left her car on the street, door open and all and trapped her in a ditch until i caught up. if it wasn't for her meesha would be gone! at the end of the street is an extremely wooded area, if it wasn't for that girl she would have ran into the woods and i most likley would have lost her for good, i'm tearing up right now at just the thought! now i thought this was a quality leash which was 20$ and the metal was so cheap it broke! i never thought anything like that could happen to a leash....so just thought i'd post here to warn others! im lucky she didn't get hit by a car or run into that woods, that girl was in the right place at the right time and saved my baby!! she has a few scrapes on her belly but other than that shes ok, i knew she could run fast, but not that fast!.. huhhh i am so blessed that girl was there! anyways jsut wanted to shre my story and hopefully you all will make sure your leashes have the highest of quality metal..my baby is so tiny but strong and that clasp snapped in the blink of an eye when she got scared enough..huhh what a night!!i thought we had the come here comanad down, but when scared enough she ignored it i guess.. so its obedience school now for her!n no walks until she learns that command no matter how scared she is! |

| That's awful. I know you were scared to death. Thank God for the girl that was in the right place at the right time. Those little guys are so small but are as strong as an ox sometimes. |

| OMG how scary!! Meesha had a guardian angel looking over her for sure. I can only imagine how terrified you were Thank God for the quick thinking of the girl who stopped her car and stopped her from running further away. She is a true hero.

| I read your title & my heart was pounding as I opened the thread. I've never had a leash break, but ZoE once slipped out of her harness in my front yard, (which is on a main road) so I know that panic that you immediately feel once you recognize that they are no longer attached. I'm so glad to hear that Meesha is ok. What an angel that girl was to stop like that in the street. With it being summer and most of us being outside more with our dogs, it's a great reminder to all of us to check our harnesses & leashes for signs of wear.

| I used to buy leashes when they were at that Dollar Spot and in the Dollar Tree until one broke one day. Luckily I was in a building with my pup. You really do have to make sure the metal is heavy on leashes! OP, I am so happy that you got your baby back. What a fright...

| I am so glad Meesha is ok!!! I know this had to be so utterly frightening for you, and I'm so happy you got her back!! It is scary how quick such a peaceful fun time out with our little ones can change in a second, and I'm happy she's back at home with you where she belongs!! |

| Thank God you're both okay! Now about metal clasps... there is normally some kind of flaw in metal either a bubble or a hairline crack... just saying it can happen with the best leashes also... depends on if they have hit the floor or sidewalk, how many times a dog has forceably pulled against it, and other stresses like temperature, etc. Best thing to do would be to replace the leash or hardware depending on how often it is used and abused, bc they're only going to handle so much stress. Might be good to go up a size in leashes, so the clasp is the next size bigger... it may be able to handle the stress better than the size you were using. Or put two small leashes on her... that way if one breaks you'll have a back up.
