| Is my puppy OK I just rescued a 7 month old yorkie from someone who has WAY over bred her dogs, Mom is 6 and about to have her 8th litter !! We have only had her for 2 days but can tell that she is going to be the sweetest and best dog ever! Her personality is NOTHING like others have said about yorkies, she is SUPER calm, doesn't want to play with toys or do anything other than be held or follow me around. I am worried that because of the over breeding that she may have some health problem. I took her to the vet and was told she looks good but I am not so sure, I will be taking her to a different vet this week.. I do think she may be a little under weight though, only 3.5 pounds. She was completely covered in fleas and her hair badly matted so it has taken a lot of bathing, cutting brushing to get her clean. Could she be SO laid back because she is in shock?? I'm glad she is not crazy hyper but I do want to play with her! |

My furkids Donating Member | Welcome to yt and congrats on your new furbaby!! She probably needs time to adjust to her new surroundings. her weight doesn't sound bad to me...Yorkies come in all sizes...I glad you took her ...sounds like she didn't come from a very good home...I'm sure she will start playing after a couple of days...7 months old is still a puppy..good luck with your new furbutt!

| I am a new yorkie owner. My pup was with me for over a week before she did "puppy" like things- playing, puppy rips. I even said to my son that she could not be any calmer. She was very mellow at first and just wanted to follow me and sleep by me. It has been three weeks and She is much more puppy like. She will play for a half hour to an hour and then take a nap. |

| I have worked with rescue dogs in the past. I think little baby's that come from those situations are a bit shocked to see what a good home is like. They don't know what to make of their new life but they know they are now loved and cares for. Give her love and attention. She may. It know how to play with toys if she did have them before. She is attached to you because you are her alpha. She wants to know you are going to be there. The health issue may or may not be an issue. For small dogs Yorkies have fewer health issues than most tiny breeds. They do have some trait health issues. My mother took in a rescued s**tzu a few years back. She was in terrible shape when they got her but they have spoiled her she is now healthy and happy but she is scared to go down stairs because we fhink she has been kicked sown them. She is terrified to stay at the bet when they are out of town. It took her a long time not to leave my moms side. It took almost 5 months to play with her toys Just Rember she is learning whAt a good home and a good parent is. Her weight sounds about right. Keep in mind weighs and sizes vary |

| She's probably just insecure in her new surroundings & not feeling settled or at home until she grows more accustomed to your home, its smells & sounds & family members. Since she's older & just been separated from the only life she's ever known, she's likely grieving also for her other dogs & humans - however awful it was. Get her as thoroughly checked out by the vet as you possibly can to be sure she's not ill from her bad beginnings - who knows how she was neglected, etc. - and be sure you are feeding her the same food she was on so as not to upset her G-I tract, which would slow her down & make her feel bad. When dogs feel bad, they often follow us everywhere. I'm glad you got her out of that place & feel that with love, care & got vetting she will soon grow accustomed to her new home & start to relax & play, romp about. Good luck!

| Thank you everyone! Daisy seems to be doing pretty good this morning! She was very happy and ate all her food (a whole 1/4cup lol). The people I got her from did send some of their food home with me (puppy chow) but we are going to transition her to a better food. Our other dog eats Bil Jac, is this good for Yorkies? Any tips on how I can encourage playing with toys or recommend a favorite toy? |

| Daisy sounds like she's going to really love living with you! It'll take her some time to adjust to you and her surroundings. Give her a little time. I personally love Fromm dog food for my boys. Do you have photos?

| If she had fleas then she has tape worms for sure. Did the vet give you medication for tape worms? She may very well have other types of worms. I would make sure they do an actual fecal exam at her next check. Tape worms will not always show up because the segments only come out occasionally but the other types of infestation can be found under a microscope. Be honest with the vet about the type of place you got this pup from and the kind of condition she was in. It will help them know what other conditions to look for in this puppy. |

| Congrats on your new addition! As bad as I hate to say this, but I would probably report the person you got the pup from. 8 litters and she is 6 years old. When I got Mikki she was over a year old. The first few days she was the calmest thing you ever seen. She was scared and in a new environment. Lets just say she has gotten over that fear! She now plays and plays and plays! Maybe a few more days will help. As far as food goes, I home cook for mine. But I feed Blue Buffalo as "snack" food. I do use the sensitive tummy formula because some Yorkies do have this problem. Good luck to you and can't wait to see pictures!

| Daisy is doing so GREAT!! Her puppy side has begun to show and is starting to be very playful! I took her for her first puppy playdate the other date and they had a blast! I did have her tested for heart worms and they did a fecal and they did not find any worms. She is on Triheart now. Do I need to get another kind of fecal test done for the tape worms?

| If your vet didn't see any tapeworms in the feces, I wouldn't worry about it. To get tapeworms, your dog has to ingest an infected flea, and not all fleas are infected.

| toys! i know lots of dogs just looooove those "skinnys" toys. they are a stuffed animal toy with all the fluff taken out. it's like a dead pelt to them...which is a little ick...but harmless and natural. there are lots of brands of them out now, and all shapes and sizes. i just got Brew a fruit bat skinny the other day. he was IN LOVE with playing with it. flings it around everywhere with him. all the best of luck to you! |
