| New here, getting my first Yorkie on June 2 I have had dogs before, but never a Yorkie. My sister has a Yorkie that I have dogsat several times, so I am taking the plunge and getting one of my own. I am getting a three year old male that is no longer being bred because the breeder is having a baby. I am going to get him neutered because I have no desire to breed him. I got a clean bill of health for him, and he is up to date on all his vaccinations. Is there anything special I need to know about Yorkies for training, health, grooming, etc. that is special to them? |

| Be ready for a lot of loving and following you around! Nothing like a yorkie! Grooming....expensive. I do my own. It works! It is better to use a harness for walking than a collar because of the trachea area. There is probably a ton more advice, but I'll leave that to the other yorkie talkers. I'm happy for you. Having a little furry boy is a lot of fun. Best wishes!

| Keep up with his dental for sure. They're mouths are so small, it could be hard to operate if an abscess were to grow. How big is your little scruff bucket going to be? He's obviously full grown now, but how much does he weigh? |

| Oh, he's a little teapot. I know more about the itty bitty yorkies (Dan's 2.5) but size plays a big part in his medication too. My vet went on a hunt for tick medication that Dan could take that wouldn't be too strong because of his size... |

Actually he is a nice size, and within the top very top of the standard of 7lbs. And oftentimes folks do keep their dogs a tadish overweight too, so maybe this 7lb boy is really in a lean fit condition actually 6lbs.

Even neutered boys can mark. How is he in marking at the breeders home? does she use belly bands? If so you might want to as well. You can get baby diapers instead though. Teeth are important and they are prone to dental disease, You need to brush, also use some additive into the water to help delay tartar formation, and feed good quality food with lots of chewy stuff to excise the tartar from his teeth. You have a good sized boy, so hopefully he is also free from Luxating Patella. However you and I know just how small 7lbs is Ears make sure ear canal stays open and clean out ears regularly. But most of all welcome, and enjoy your New Yorkie
