Rainbow Niagara Falls?

Hey guys! Anyone ever traveled with their pup to Niagara Falls? My parents are coming up for a visit and we are thinking of visiting. It's a few hours drive from our home. We are hoping to cross over to Canada too since none of us have ever been to Canada. So, couple of questions...

If you have been, did you take your pup? I read where pets are allowed inside the park. I'm thinking a customized outfit may be in order! LOL

Also, if you have crossed the border, is your dog allowed too? Do I need to take her immunization records from our vet with me if she is? I wasn't sure how traveling out of the country worked with a pet. We all have passports. I know with some countries the pet has to be quarantined for so long. Is it that way for Canada too? If so, we will just stay in the States. I want KS to experience this adventure with us!

Thanks for any input! Have a great day guys!

I have gone with dogs many times, but things change each year so play it safe, don't take anyone's advice just check on line with the proper authorities to get the latest up to date info. I drive back and forth often and have a passport and show that so I have no problems, but without a passport I would check ahead. Also make sure everyone traveling has their ID's. Years ago my mom was visiting and we decided to go for the day, she was not planning on driving so she did not bring her drivers license, I never even thought to ask her if she had it, getting in was not a problem but getting back home was a huge hassle. So make sure you know the entry procedures not only for getting into Canada but for getting back into the US often the two countries have different requirements and the US is usually stricter.

As for visiting the Falls, hands down it is better in Canada. I really don't recall it being a park per say, I believe we paid only at the parking area and I think there was an observation area we went up in. But there is plenty to see by just walking along a wall. to different areas of the falls. I liked being at the flat area where it starts, it's really unreal looking. It will be crowded on the weekend so go mid week if you can and you will probably need the stroller for KS's safety. If you get into Canada a must is to drive about 25 miles further right along the water route to Niagara on the Lake, it is the most beautiful quaint town, great shopping, eating, and a park that runs all along the river that is perfect for bike riding, their trails are outstanding. When Ian and I go back we plan on riding from NOL to the falls on our bikes, with Lola in my basket. NOL is huge wine region and there are wineries after winery and you can go for tours and testings, even if you don't like wine you will still love Niagara on the Lake, make sure you go to their marina area which is right by a park with a beautiful view of the Lake. It's one of my favorite places, call me if you want more info. I want to go back there sooooooo bad.

since I am thinking about going with Lola this summer, thought I would check, like I thought lots of conflicting info out there, some info said you need a passport, but I found this site that is an offical one. While they say you do not need a passport you will need more, the best will be a birt certificate for those in your group with out passports.

Canadian Food Inspection Agency - Frequently Asked Questions - Importing Domestic Dogs

here is the info about dogs, does not seem like this has changed, their biggest concern is rabbies, so have your proof or rabies certificate and to be on the safe side any other vet info and it will never hurt for your vet to give you a health certificate even though it is not asked for, in this case my motto is more is better.

Thank you soooo much for the compliment to my country!! I have travelled to the states and you do need a passport...birth certificate or the drivers liscence(sp) that has all your info on it. For the pups you should carry their health certificate from your vet. If you are going on a wine tour I suggest you eat before you go as it is a wine tasting tour...Dont know about you, but after about 3 tastes of wine I got kinda stupid, we had a ball though! And Niagara on the Lake is beautiful..they have pet friendly bed and breakfasts that you can stay at! Have fun and welcome to Canada!

My sister took her 2 dogs on vacation with her to Canada maybe 3 years ago. Crossing into Canada was a breeze, but I remember her saying coming back with the dogs was a nightmare.

Ummm, I take offense!! I think both sides of the falls are equally good with their own view points etc., the Falls can't be "done" without seeing it from both sides. The American side does have a full park and is great for walking over to Goat Island, having a picnic lunch, and just enjoying nature...and getting a great view as well. While on the American side you will see lots of really beautiful birds and squirrels and sometimes even deer!!! It is well visited and the only advice I have is if you have a long coat on your pups you will definitely need to wrap and wear a rain jacket!!! Enjoy, I go there a few times a week in the summer and atleast once a month in the winter, if you need any other info, feel free to PM me!

There is so much to do on both sides. The last I heard they suggested you take your passports otherwise you need a ton of other ID. I would travel with your dog's shot record no matter where you go. You never know when an issue may come up and it's darn hard to get them faxed to you when you are out of town on a weekend.
I always thought that one of the coolest parts of going to the Canadian side of the falls was going under them but I would never take my dog down there. It scared the daylights out of me the first time I did it. The noise level is quite loud down there. It is really something to stand there underneath the falls looking out. I love the museums and everything else too. It would take days to see it all. You have to pick and choose what interests you most before you get there.

I forgot to mention this, I thought it was kind of ironic, you can bring a dog in, but on the list of things you can not bring in is pet food! I am sure it is meant for large amounts and because sometimes dry pet food can contain worms but I got a kick out of that statement. So you might want to smuggle in KS's kibble in your bra

did you all hear about the guy that is going to cross the falls on a tightrope in June, he is from the flying Wallinders (sp?) the famous ariel circus family. It's going to be a big deal and a TV special, I would make sure not to go there during that weekend, I bet it will really be a zoo.
