| Some Yorkie Advice Please! I bought my yorkie puppy when he was almost 4 months old.. he is now 10 months old. I have slowly been introducing him to new things, new people, new places... Anytime he comes in contact with new people he growls at them and barks, its really embarrassing! I have been telling him "no!" and "bad!" and also rewarding him when he (occasionally) responds correctly to new people. Since he is small and cute children want to come pet him but I simply cannot allow him near them because I dont trust his behavior because he is so unpredictable.. some people and children he will be fine around and others he starts growling and barking. He has never bitten anyone. Just that puppy play bite which I also tell him no. He is also okay around new dogs, just curious and wants to smell them. Its only people that he starts barking and growling! I don't know how to stop this... he is starting a obedience class in the beginning of June so hopefully this helps. He really is a sweet and funny dog. I wish he was nice to everyone! Any of suggestions? Thanks! |

| Sounds to me like he needs to socialize. The obedience class will help alot with that. My Winnie was the same way when we first got her and after a few sessions of puppy classes she was an entirely new dog!

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | I agree...a obedience class was my first thought. Katie Scarlett just loved her puppy class and it really helped her learn to socialize with other people and other dogs. It worked wonders for us.
