| So Confused about when to Spay Kyra Laddy has his appointment for neuter at 7:30 in the morning so of course mama can't sleep. Hence I am up writing this lol. He is 3 and we never had him fixed as he was never around other unfixed dogs up until we go kyra. I am so fearful it will be harder on him but had to be done . Anyway our Vet says Kyra at 2.2lbs is just to tiny to spay yet and others here have told me to let her growth plates finish first. Thennnnn the other day a friend who is a vet said there are differing opinions on this and she would be just fine. I don't want to risk her getting cancer from going into heat first but I also don't want to risk neurological problems if we have it done while she is still so tiny. She is 6 months old. Any suggestions anyone?

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Canine Sports Productions: Early Spay-Neuter Considerations for the Canine Athlete This is a good article, includes the research that was looked at. You will need to weigh, the risks and benefits. On the bright side you are having your boy neutered today, so that when*if( she goes into her first heat, you won't have to be exceedingly cautious at home with your boy. And just a further note; there is no need to guess if your gal's growth plates have closed, just have vet take a lateral view of the tibia. That is the last growth plate to close. I think for myself, I would allow one heat to happen, and then spay after growth plate closure. At least too, any retained baby teeth can be removed. Also pretty soon, you should think about having a BATS test done on your gal. Dr Jean Dodds recommends first BAT at 16wks and second one at 6mths

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Bile Acid Test. It is one test that looks specifically at how well the liver is funtioning. Two blood draws are done. One after a fast, then 2hrs later you feed dog, and another blood draw is done.

| I will do that Gemy thank you, I knew I needed to since she is so small but didn't know at what age I should have the test done.
