| It is always something! Hi Everyone, I haven't been too active on here, My Mom was just in the hospital. She was really sick. We found out she had gall stones and had to have her Gallbladder removed! She just got out of the hospital and is home! Yeay for that! Now it is Peanuts turn! Peanut just had his anal's expressed about 4 weeks ago at the groomer. Last night he was sitting on me and he was itching at his bum, then I smelt that smell!!! I was like OMG what if one of his anal's busted open! ( Since my Moms cat just had anal gland surgery I have been super paranoid with Pnuts LOL) I shaved him up and didn't see anything. I dropped him off at the vet today. I was talking to the vet tech and she told me half the time the "groomers" do not go inside so they do not express it 100% She told me she see's a lot of dogs come in with this problem that get it done at the groomer! I guess I will be going to the vet to get his anal's done now. It seems like Pnut's anal's fill up faster than normal? I guess I wont really know till after I get them done at the vet and see how long they last... What about your Yorkies? Where do you get them? How often?

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Hope your Mom recovers quickly! Bless her heart! We have KS's anal glands done at the groomers, but now I think I'll let the vet do it!

I would start having it done at the Vet's. I am not sure if all groomers do not go "inside" but its a chance I am not willing to take anymore!!

| I hope your mom gets better ASAP! My mom had the same thing happen to her a few years back, it was a pain for her! I get Ralph's done at the groomer. I sadly know how to do it. I used to work at a boutique/grooming salon and the groomer taught me the right way to do it. So I could technically do it myself, but believe me I NEVER will. |

| Couv only needs his anal glands expressed a few times a year and we have it done at the vet because I groom him myself... and I don't plan on learning how to express them myself I'm glad to hear your mom is home and is healing... My mom used to be overweight and then got motivated to lose it and feel better about herself. She lost over 50 pounds and is now a lean 130 pounds and I couldn't be more proud of her She did weight watchers, and sees it as a forever thing... not a diet. It's something you have to continue with if you want to keep the weight off.

| OH, I'm sorry that your mom was so ill and had to have surgery! What a stressful time for everybody - the patient plus those who love her. I hope she is feeling better and not too restricted in her diet. Everyone I ever knew who had GB surgery say they feel so much better after surgery that it is amazing. Hope that is your mom's experience. Tibbe has to have his anal glands expressed 1 - 2 x yearly but I have never smelled them - only notice scooting sometimes but usually he doesn't show a lot of symptoms - it is the vet who tells me during one of his check-ups that they need expressing. I can usually relate that condition to me not feeling so well during the preceding weeks and not letting him run & play outside as long as usual - calling him inside sooner than usual after potty/play breaks as I don't feel like staying out with him very long.

| Hm- That's odd, I wonder why Peanut has to have his done so much?? Maybe the Vet can shed some light on it when I pick him up. Thank you for all the sweet comments about my Mom- CouversMom- That is great for your MoM, I am going to talk to My Mom and see what she is going to do, since her surgery she has to be on a special diet anyways, so its a great time to do something!! yorkietalkjilly- It was very stressful!! I am glad it is over and she is healing!!

| Wishing your mom a speedy recovery! I'm glad she is doing well. Poor little Peanut. Some dogs just fill up faster than others, and some require help. Max had a brief problem when he was a pup and a vet manually retrieved a stool sample for no good reason. I added peas to his diet for a long time to make his stools larger and firmer to express the glands. He hasn't had a problem since, although he tends to express only outdoors and not indoors on the pad. So, if we are stuck inside for more than a day, I know he doesn't like that. Same with Teddy.

| I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I'm glad she is home and on the road to recovery. Kacee has never needed her anal glands expressed. She empties them herself. I'd be careful and not let groomers do it. Too many people think they know how to do it and really can't do it properly. It's easy for someone to do more damage than good. Let the vet do it.
