| Help! Yorkie has thin smooth hair. I bought my yorkie about two weeks ago. He is now 10 weeks old and still has a very thin smooth coat. All of his sisters had your typical fluffy yorkie face and wiry hair on the body. I was set on getting a male. Although he had (and still has) thin smooth hair, the breeder assured me it would grow out normally. Both parents were AKC registered and I inspected both of the parents. The woman selling the puppies did not have the puppies registered nor did she have the tails docked (she thinks it is inhumane, but I'm not here to discuss that). Looking at my Yorkie do you think his hair will grow out normally? Thanks! Cheers! |

| I looked at the pictures and have seen these pictures on another thread. The ten week old looks much more "fluffy" than my little pup. Did anyone else have thin haired yorkie pup? |

Max Main's Mamma Donating YT Member | Welcome to Yorkie Talk! You have come to the right place! First off, that is a Beautiful puppy!!!! You must be very in love with him. I have a couple of questions 1) Do you have pictures of the sisters or parents? 2) Did you get to see both parents and their papers? I am only asking because I have a couple of concerns about his appearance although he is seriously one of the cutests puppies ever. My first concern is that you were able to get him at 8 weeks. Most breeders will not allow their Yorkie puppies to leave their mothers until 12 weeks because it is an important socialization period as well as important to their overall health. Also, his overall apperance does not look like a Yorkie typically would look at his age. Here is a picture of Max at 12 weeks and I feel like they look very different. ...I may be wrong but maybe a breeder from this forum could tell you more. Good luck and congratulations on your beautiful dog!!!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | silky puppies are less fluffy than yorkie puppies, since their adult coat is less dense than the yorkie, his hair looks like my last litter, the one think is sure he is going to have a very nice silky adult coat.. what can I say is that not so ethical yorkie breeders are using silky dams to breed their yorkie males and this is the result. that is all I have to say, but your puppy is beautiful and he will have a beautiful silky coat.. congratulations on your pup.. here is a picture of my silky terrier litter at 10 weeks .. http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...3/IMG_0915.jpg hugs, |

If the parents are AKC is it not expensive at all for a breeder to register the litter. I do know if breeders are not 100% sure of paternity they may not register the little. It is possible for the puppies in a litter to have different dads. Is she going to make it so you can AKC register your puppy?- If you can then I would contact the AKC about this issue. Wish you many wonderful years with your guy.

| I've never seen a yorkie puppy that dark in the face. What did the parents look like? My ZoE wasn't "fluffy" as a puppy. As an adult she has silky hair that hardly ever matts or tangles. Here's ZoE the day she turned 11 weeks old.

| Thanks for the responses. Here are the sisters. These pictures were taken at 8 weeks when I went to visit. So you think he is a silky-yorkie mix? If so what can I do? I saw the papers for the father but did not see the papers for the mother. They could not find the papers for the mother. I bought the pup from what SEEMED like a very honest and nice family. Looks like I got taken. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | because the silky females are bigger , stronger and the non ethical breeders think that they can whelp without as many complications than the yorkie females. also a silky female can carry up to 6 babies per pregnancy and rare than the smaller yorkie females carry that many, is also known in the breeding circles that the non ethical breeders of splitting the larger litters so they say the yorkie dam had 3 and another female had 3, so they don't raise suspicions, they are very cunning. so sad.. my female silky had 6 puppies this last litter. that is why knowing your breeder and asking questions and visiting is very, very important. hugs, |
