| What to do when you find out that your Yorkie is a mix? Hallo everyone! We have just registered to this Yorkie community although we have read it time to time. Well, my Ozzy is almost 4 month old and today we were to our vet for the first time for the vaccination and we came home with the shocking news – my vet thinks that my Yorkie is a mixed breed!!! We bought Ozzy with the papers and certificate with the family tree -his mom was 2,8 kg and dad 1,6 kg. The lady, we bought it from, said that she has vaccinated him as well as she had permission to do it, but today vet said that the vaccine she has used was for cats!!! Additionally Ozzy in his 4 months old and he is already 2,7 kg heavy!!! And vet said that I should be prepared that he will be up to 6 kg when full grown which is definitely too much for the Yorkie as normally they are 3 kg!!!! So my vet thought that the papers are as well false.... There is no doubt that I love him and he is the sweetest thing ever and that I will keep him! BUT you know that betrayal feeling that you have bought a very expensive dog with all papers, so to be sure that you have clean breed and here you get a mix. How do you think – should I start the fight against the seller now or wait or I don’t know. I am in kind of shock so I was hoping that someone with the same experience would advise, what is the best thing to do in this situation… Last edited by Ozzy-LFK; 04-27-2012 at 04:04 AM. |

| hello and welcome to yt! i believe there are dna kits you can purchase to confirm if your baby is full yorkie. i think you should start there before going after the seller. some yorkies are up to 15 pounds.....they come in all sizes so it is not unusual for them to be tiny small med and large. good luck and im glad you love ur baby no matter his size or pure/mix breed.

I don't like to give advice to people but this is what I would do: I would hug the dog and give him a treat I would get him tested I would file legal action against the person who sold me the dog If you don't step in and defend yourself this seller will continue to defraud others. Good luck and let us know how things work out. We would love to see some pictures of your dog...... | |

| Thank you for your welcome and advices! I know that Yorkies can be different sizes, but as my vet pointed out, then Ozzy should not be much heavier than his heaviest parent, but he has reached this weight already in first 4 month which suggests the mixing issue. Actually, I didn’t know anything about DNA breed testing before you suggested it- so thank you for suggestion! I will definitely try that one although it is not the cheapest thing – found one on Amazon – lucky you in US as test in US cost half a price of the same test in UK… Wisdom Panel Insights Mixed Breed DNA Test:... After testing him and seeing results, we will definitely consider starting some action, BUT again what I noticed today was that after fulfilling so much papers at the moment we were buying him, we didn’t notice that we didn’t received any receipt! How stupid of us!!!!!! At least my vet will start investigation against her because of the wrong cat vaccines what she was giving to the dogs… Anyway, here is the picture of Ozzy We took it yesterday and he is not the biggest fan of taking pictures, so he looks kind of serious… And there is one of my favorites – the way how he sleeps – like a human! He is soooo funny! |

| Well I think he looks way more yorkie than my "breeder" yorkie. I think he's beautiful. We are doing the same things you are speaking of to make sure this woman doesn't continue doing this to other people. Here's the thread and wonderful I got on this same issue: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...eet-steve.html Good luck. |

omg... he is so cute!!! I agree... love him!! And go after the seller to prevent her doing the same to others. But I think he may be full yorkie, just a big over the standard size. Health is the most improtant. Will there be any side effect from the cat Vac. ? Good Luck

| He is so cute!!! Looks yorkie to me. Just because he's bigger doesn't mean he's a mix. In his pedigree (family tree) does it state the weights of his relatives? I'm sorry to say but your vet may be wrong. His statement on weights is more an opinion than it is fact. If it's in your dog's genetic makeup to be a bigger dog, he will be a bigger dog no matter what size his parents are. He can be a throwback from generations past where a larger yorkie was used in the mix. Nothing wrong with that, unless you expected to show him. For us pet owners it just means more to love. If I was in your shoes, I would get him DNA tested so I would have a bigger case against his breeder. Who gives a cat vaccine to a dog?!?! She doesn't sound very bright. Did the vet tell you if the cat vaccines were dangerous?

| My Yorkie is 15 pounds and twice the size of both of his parents. Sometimes it happens. I don't think you should make assumptions based only on weight. Ozzie is adorable and looks Yorkie to me!

| Also it is not uncommon for them to get larger than their parents it just means somewhere in his ancestory their is a larger yorkie and he took after them. It could be a grandparent or even further down
