| I need some Advice I just brought a yorkie (Miss Jay) that will be 9 weeks on this friday. I have had her for about 2 weeks. I absolutly love her and I would love for her to be house dog that is able to roam free around the house without her getting into everything or pooing or peeing everywhere. I did some research and everyone suggest that I use the crate to train her. I tried that and everytime I put her in there she would cry and cry and cry. To the point where she would shake and throw up. I work about 8 hours out the day. I would take her out in the morning and come home on my lunch break and take her out. I also take her out in the evening after work and she does go during those times but on top of her hating the crate she would also pee in there. So I went and I found a baby playpen at a yard sale and I don't have any problems from her as far as crying. She however will still pee in there. I put the pee pads in the playpen with her and I still continue to take her outside. She does do her business outside and I reward her with lots and lots of love but I don't want her to pee at all in the house whether it is the playpen, crate or my carpet. I am wondering if I contiue to keep her in the playpen will she get confused and still continue to pee in the playpen and house. I really don't have the heart to stick her back in the crate plus we both get a good night sleep when she is the playpen. Does anybody have any suggestions or will Miss Jay eventually catch on and only pee and poo out side only? |

| If your using a play pen or an xpen you pad train. If you want her to go outside only youve got to use a small crate.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk. Miss Jay is very much a baby. She'll need to be quite a bit older before she can even have bladder control. There's no way to avoid that right now. I work too and come home on lunch break. I totally understand, its hard to potty train them when you have to be gone so much. Just be there as much as you can and keep the training up consistently. I didn't crate mine while I was home. Its a good idea to put a leash on her (with a harness, not on her collar) and keep her with you at ALL times at home while she is potty training so you can see signs of her fixing to go to the bathroom. Mine is now 3 and doing good where I can give her the run of the house. It will get there, but it will most likely take a LOT of patience & consistency. Don't give up!

| Well she should very much still be with her mommy until 12 weeks so the crying is her not wanting to be alone and scared more then likely. I would make sure to give her a treat as well when she goes potty where you want her too. Potty training is tough and takes a lot of hard work but if you work at it she will get it eventually. I worry about her being alone for that long because small breed puppies are at a high risk for hypoglycemia and if she throws up her food from crying when your gone and is using a bunch of energy crying she could have a hypoglycemic episode and if no one is there it could result in death.
