| Do you think a veterinarian would be good candidate to adopt? I will be graduating from veterinary school very soon. I do not own a dog presently just a family dog. I am trying to a adopt a Yorkie. I hope this makes me a top person. There is nothing more special than a veterinarians first dog. I have dedicated many years to improvement of animal health. Would an adoption agency hold this as positive or negative thing? |

| i dont think it matters what you do for a living as much as it matters how much time you can spend with your baby. why you want the baby. and how patient you can be with training and potty training or any behavioral need they may have. just my three cents. good luck finding your first baby!

| I would hope that there are more things taken into consideration as to who they adopt their dogs out to than just what a person does for a living. Of course having medical knowledge is a very good thing but personalities and living conditions are important as well. Some dogs need a fenced yard and some need a stay at home owner. There should be many things taken into consideration for adoption. Hopefully a rescue would eventually have a dog that is just right for your particular lifestyle and personality. |

| I know you need a well rounded application. There are pros and cons to every career. I will be entering a boarded residency, so no I am not a stay at home owner. In a large university setting there are excellent perks of daycare and behaviorists. A young dog that loves to be on the go would be best. Our animals lifestyle are a bit different, but we do have awesome benefits for the right dog to enjoy a good life. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I just want to know how much training in nutrition did you receive? Everyone here says that vets know nothing about canine nutrition. Maybe you could join a few online food forums and learn something! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) Seriously, I think if someone is going to be gone most of the day, a Yorkie isn't the best choice. If you decide that that is the only breed for you, then I would look at an older dog, one that was a bit more independent, or you could do like some have done and get a couple of them so that they could keep each other company. I would think that your job title would be a plus.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Congratulations on your impending graduation from veterinary school, and thanks for all you will be doing to help our pets! I'll let you adopt mine for short periods -- when they're sick! Nah, I think you'd be a great candidate and I'm sure an animal lover such as yourself has considered what it takes to raise a happy and healthy dog.

| I did take an actual course in nutrition and biochemistry. I think a lot of vets have a hard time with owners who contradict our recommendations with DR. GOOGLE or the internet said this or that. I have toured several slaughter facilities and food packaging plants. It is very interesting to see the whole process. I have thought about getting a second one, but I want the first one to bond to me. This is a whole process that is almost 3 decades in the making. The dog will be coming with be serviced and becoming to work with me. It is nice to be able to alter a working contract to include this. |

| Thank you it is just very difficult to adopt in New England. I have had clients offer me free pups because they have seen me from a clueless undergrad until now. I just always hoped all my pups would be adopted, but I am not sure how that is going to work out. I have a vacation coming up and was hoping to get a good start on training with a dog that was a little older. |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk! Yorkies are awsome critters. I would have two (non-judgemental) questions for you: 1. I'm interested to know what interests you about the Yorkie? 2. What type of Service Dog are you hoping to train/have trained? Again, Welcome The folks here are not vets but there is a powerful amount of knowledge about the breed here - and they are very generous with their help!

| I want a small active breed. I have seen plenty of Yorkies in practice. This site seems pretty informative of things not taught in lecture. Vet students are generally not advised to visit online forums. They tend to argue whatever they are taught. I have also seen the results of poor breeding with assisting in PDA ligation surgeries and intraventional radiology stents for liver shunts. I have been very open to the advise of some breeders. You would not believe some of things our new puppy clients come with in with as "advice" from breeders. I took a behavioral training elective with some of best. We service our dogs to visit some community outreach projects. I know it is mostly goldens and labs, but who says it can't be done with a small terrier. |
