| Yorkie in water/swimming for 1st time Kayak Hi.. There's a kayak cave tour in my area and the tour guide said it was absolutlely ok for me to bring benny on the kayak. He will love it but my only concern is that we might tip over and he'll be in ocean water for the very 1st time. Has anyone brought your yorkie to a lake or beach and was he able handle himself or herself in the water without freaking out for the 1st time? |

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | Mine like to swim in the lake. I would for sure buy him a life jacket. And not sure about salt water.

| Def. get a life jacket Jackson is a water freak, and a very good swimmer without it, but for kayaking - I'd put on a lifejacket just to be safe. (excuse to post Jackson pics)

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Definitely life jacket. Most have handles about mid back make sure yours does cause if he goes in for a dunk you want to be able to easily pick him up

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I f it is your pool, then I'd say anytime you have a fine and very warm day. That sets it up so your pup wants to get cool.

| I say go for it! I would definitely get a lifejacket, but other than that... I'm sure you'll be fine and he will love it.

| I really don't know about making a kayak trip the first water experience for your yorkie. It may make him afraid of the water if he falls in and you don't want that to happen. Maybe introduce him in a swimming pool or lake first.... with a life jacket!

| most yorkies do not like the water, I am on my fifth and she is a mix and the first one to love the water. My advice is to use a good well fitting and secure life vest with a strap on the top. I would also keep it tethered to you and the dog by a plastic tie out leash. If you tip you don't want to be separated especially if there is a current, also you don't want him to jump out. We have boat and I keep Lola on a cord because he she tends to get up on the bow and I am afraid she might jump out. I had a friend that was watching her when I was out of town and she jumped off his pontoon into the lake. I was not happy to hear that but at least it ended well, but he will NEVER take Lola on his boat again. I would suggest you introduce your dog to swimming before you go out on the kayak. Have fun and hopefully your pup enjoys the water
