| New to Yorkies Hi, I am new to here and to Yorkies. My puppy will be born soon, about 9 days. I can`t wait. I have never had a toy dog before, but have read many books, so I think I am ready. I have my new puppy apartment, all set to go. I have two cats also. Do you think they will get along? Looking forward to reading more about Yorkies here. |

| Welcome!!! There are quite a few members here who have cats with their Yorkies and they seem to get along well. One of them even gets baths from his Kitty brother A very important thing is to make sure to block off the litter box so the puppy can't get to it, but kitty can. Dogs seem to love "kitty roca" and that's just gross, not to mention not good for their health. Read all you can here, ask questions, and get to know everyone, lots of nice folks here. You have lots of time to learn all you need to know about your pup. How old will the pup be when you bring it home? It's recommended by reputable breeders and the YTCA that they stay with Momma for 12 weeks, at least. Good luck with your new baby and I look forward to hearing all about them

| She will be coming to me at about 9 weeks if she is eating well. If not, later. I can visit her as my sister in law is the breeder. Thanks |

| That's really not a good idea puppies learn a lot from there moms from 8-12 weeks and you will be really happy you let her stay with her mom longer when she is easier to potty train and with biting as well as some other things. This is very important for toy dogs. Please please do some research and look into it, its what is best for the puppy. Give your puppy the best start possible and letting her be with her mom until 12 weeks and learn all she can from her mom is the best way to do that.

| When we got Laddy he was 9 weeks and our outside cat thought he was a mouse she batted him around an was ready to bite down when DH grabbed him up I think it may of been because he was so tiny. Maybe if you are going to have your baby with cats it would be best all the way around to wait until it is older . Congrats on the new baby and welcome to YT.

| Gracie thinks she is queen of the cats. She makes sure they all stay in line. My adult cats are all bigger than she is but Gracie still thinks she is in charge. When she was a puppy she sometimes would chase the cats. I had to teach her that she was not to do that. Every dog is different. Some Yorkies just like to chase things so you may have to deal with that at first. Just depends on the personality. |
