My Yorkie is sick!!!! I have a four month old male yorkie "enzo". I bought him about 2 1/2 weeks ago at a local pet store. I wanted a companion for my older yorkie "Chole". I brought him to the vet and he thought he might have kennel cough so he was on a 10 day of medicine which he finished. He went in to get his distemper shot and was sooo sick. They had to give him a shot of Benadryl and an IV. He seemed better but this past weekend he has been having little asthma like attacks. I brought him back to the vet today and went from 3 1/2 lbs to 3 pounds. The vet put him on a antibiotic for 10 days and I have to call to say how he is doing on Wednesday. The problem is I am worried Chloe is going to get sick and I am already in love with this little guy and I don't want him to get worse. Has anyone experienced this before???? My vet doesn't have a clue????

If you can possibly afford it, take Enzo to Angel Memorial in Boston. I think that's the name of the famous animal hospital there that has so many wonderful vets. Have you talked to the pet store about covering some of Enzo's bills? Were there any health guarantees? This is so, so tragic. Gentle, careful nursing care, with lots of love to help reduce the stress on Enzo hopefully will help him heal. In the meantime, I will send prayers aloft for you both..... Hugs, Mary Ellen

Thnaks for the support. I am going to give Enzo until Wed morning on the antibiotic if he is still not feeling well I am going to call Angel memorial. My husband keeps telling me to call the pet store and complain after all the money they charged me ($2,000) but I am afraid they are just going to tell me to bring him back for a refund or a new dog and there is no way I could do that. It has been only 2 weeks and I can't imaginge life without him. I am doing a little research until I go back to the vet. I am looking into tracheal collapse and congentive heart disease. I have been reading my books and started him on a new diet of chicken and rice. I will try anything to get him better.

Debbie, Your story sounds similar to mine when I first bought Archie. He went in to get his first vaccinations, and was SOOOO sick when I brought him home. He had diarrhea and wouldn't move or eat. I brought him back to the vet immediately and they gave him a shot of benadryl and shots of liquid so he wouldn't get dehydrated. It took him a day or so to recover, but the vet said he definitely had an allergic reaction to the vaccination and that it DOES happen. I'm sure Enzo will be feeling better in a couple of days. Let me know how he's doing.

Yes, our prayers go out to Enzo! We're all pulling for him. Make sure the vet you are using now has EXPERIENCE with our little Yorkies! I can't stress that enough! It makes all the difference in the world, as we've had members here with Yorkies that got overdoses of medicine because of inexperienced vets! I would complain to the pet store, but of course not give Enzo back, perhaps try to ask for a partial refund? Or to help pay for some of the vet bills.

| Debbiezam ... sorry about your baby! Fasteddie is right ... find a vet that KNOWS Yorkies! Our Dr. Lucy is wonderful, we have her on "speed dial" at her office and at home!! I wouldn't take that baby back to the pet shop ... they probably would not make the effort that you are making to try and help him get better! We too made a large investment in our Toto, but there is a point when the money doesn't matter [for us it was five minutes after we actually had her in our arms!! ] I quit counting after Papa bought her 7th bed!! My rationale is that "Toto just requires lots of stuff"!! She is our joy! I certainly understand how you must feel and you can rest assured that we will keep that baby in our prayers!! Keep us updated.

Well Enzo was up almost all night again with choking and coughing. I think today I am going to use my digital camera on the video mode to catch him in one of these attacks this way I can bring it into the vets with me and show him because of course Enzo never does it when we are there. I think I will stop by the pet store today and have a little chat with the manager. I would never give him back but I think they should start footing some of the bill....
